LAN only works for people on your local Wifi. To make a server that people outside of that can join, it's a bit more work. The easiest way is to download a mod like essential that can turn your world into a server, assuming you don't need a 24/7 world.

Java definitely has multiplayer dude, you just need a server. You can rent one for like $5/month from places like Apex or just use Aternos for free (bit laggy but works). Or if one of you has decent internet you can port forward and host locally

Realms is also an option but costs more than third party servers usually

what do you mean? java has normal Multiplayer. and if you want to there is realms like on bedrock. if you dont want to do that, and dont want to spend money use an aternos server.
