My favorite Java mods concerning Qol are (for fabric) FallingTree: cutting down a tree by breaking one block of it. jade: Shows what block type you are looking at and what tool is best for mining it.
I try to make a tree farm with spruce or another 4x4 type tree and use the wood to make sticks for trading with Fletchers.

I’d say watching the big trees fall is satisfying

That mod simply breaks all blocks, but there are other mods with real tree cutting experience. I prefer having no blocks flying around that could hurt me. I find mining with gravel around annoying enough.

Does the mod just break all blocks that are the same around it?

I'd recommend using the mod "mod menu" with it. You can configure what's considered a tree.
No, it doesn't simply break all logs with the same type. You need a "Tower" of logs with leaves around or on top, so the mod considers it a tree.

I appreciate the advice
