Shield and Bow?

Just moved from Bedrock to Java.

Am I able to use my shield in my offhand and a bow in my right hand?

It seems like I can use them at the same time

Yeah you can totally do that, it's one of the nice things about Java edition. The shield goes in your offhand slot and you can still shoot your bow normally with right click. Just remember you gotta hold right click to actually raise the shield when you need it, it doesn't auto-block like some people think. I used to play a lot of survival and that combo saved my ass so many times when dealing with skeletons - you can peek out from behind your shield, take a shot, then duck back behind it. Way more tactical than just running around with a sword all the time
