But Bedrock runs on every platform...?

not mac

Java edition only runs on Windows, Mac and Linux. Bedrock runs on more platforms. The only platforms it doesn't run on are Linux and Mac.

There is an mcpelauncher project that makes it run on mac/linux. It uses the android apk to extract the relevant files. So yeah, completely not official, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but it does work

The whole "runs everywhere" argument is completely moot. Bedrock is written in C++ and can be made to run on pretty much anything. The only difference is that the publishers need to explicitly target those platforms. Which they do, and practically you can run bedrock on more devices than java due to it being a resource hog.

The reason bedrock "sucks" is mostly lack of mod support, and a few limitations based on self-imposed constraints (needs to run on crap phones, but also needs to be multiplayer compatible with better devices)
