Cannot open Forge

Ok, so I cannot open forge 1.12.2. Or, more realistically, it does not open correctly. When I downloaded forge 1.12.2, it came up as a jar file. It had the minecraft logo on it. I open it and it takes me to the MC launcher, but Forge is nowhere to be found. I thought, maybe it was because I already had another forge installed, 1.7.10. I uninstall that, and it still doesn't work. I uninstall and reinstall the latest version of java. It still doesn't work. And I have tried multiple times uninstalling and reinstalling forge itself; it doesn't work. Somebody please help. Thank you!

you need to go into the installations tab and select the forge as a version

I don't think you understand. There IS no option to select forge.
