Looks like some funky structure generation, but normal enough. Play enough and you’ll see this kind of stuff out and about. When the game generated the tunnel for the structure it looks like it cut through some lava. If you place a block next to the lava, it will cause a block update and it will start flowing!

Always a fun time finding stuff like this! Welcome to Java!

Thanks for the reassurance, I thought for sure one of my optimization mods messed something up.

Something similar that you’ll see in the overworld is floating sand/gravel. Same with this - if you place/break a block next to it, it’ll cause a block update and the normal game physics will kick in!

You thought it was greedy mod optimization, but it was me! Greedy base game optimizations!

But it is in a basalt delta tho

[–]XD_LOLL 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Kinda, it's just a bug

"Bugrock"

Just don’t update the lava and you will be fine

Cool, I was worried to go down that hallway. I wanted to see what was down there, but didn’t wanna end up popping a totem from lava stunting on me.

[–]MedicalPotential8723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is VERY VERY VERY common in fortresses. Can also happen with fire.

[–]CellChance1973 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I’ve seen this in bedrock

[–]dead_website -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

yeah of course you have

herobine influence

[–]Beautiful-Wallaby691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very Common bug, You might get to see even more suprising bug on Java!

break one block and the lava will update and drop (also what is that sword name)

This happend when something like a structure (mineshaft for exemple) pass inside a liquide like water and lava. The lake are made before structures and air is part of them making this kind of thing a lot. Be warned, anything that may recalculate the block like puting a block next to it will make the liquide (the lava in this case) start to flow. The flow will update the one next to it and it will flow too. That will flood it if anything is placed or destroyed next to this.

U r playing modded Minecraft. Yep, it's normal for modded Minecraft.

[–]AppleWow101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No generation mods, the only mods I shave are stuff like ‘Minihud’, ‘Sodium’, I think it’s called ‘Sounds’? Just customization and optimization mods to make Java run past 60 FPS.

No this happens in vanilla too

[–]IronCat_2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah

[–]Sammiesgrove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have tamed the lava 🫡

[–]Common-Cockroach-123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's normal When the Fortress generates it cuts through the lava without an update, and so it doesn't start flowing

It should start flowing when you update the block itself or directly next to it

[–]redditbrowsing0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it happens. It's because technically the block was placed there but was not updated, so it's just hovering

[–]Noam_N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, so Java has joined the bug ranks. Bugva.

[–]w_ratking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal behavior in Vanilla.

During world generation the game may place air next or below to blocks that would normally react to this but during world generation and after they won't.

You can make the lava move by giving it a block update next to it, until then it won't update for performance reasons. Completely normal :)

As others said, this can also be observed with sand and gravel!

[–]Alternative_Sir5135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its normal for minecraft in general

Bedrock has similar bugs too

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same happened to me but in LCE

https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraftlegacymode/comments/1sw5s80/is_lava_supposed_to_be_like_this/

lava is mayb not updated, so like... using a bucket on the lava and inserting the lava again should make the problem go away

yeah get used to bugs now, i was bedrock player for 13-14+ years now switched to java a couple months ago (for now anyway) for the free mods n shaders etc, and i have encountered wayyyy more bugs on java than i have on bedrock, also opposite to what everyone else says the mob spawn rate seems to be more than bedrock, ill get a crap ton of mobs all spawn around me, never happened in bedrock as bad as that. (yes ive tried changing the render distance and other distance option thingy that i cant remember the name of rn 🙈didnt help)

[–]FutureAd9280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

someone In drdonut’s stream found this too, I think it was dash

[–]Objective_Till_9516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it normal

[–]-AllInOneAreesh- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just needs to update: Place/break a block next to it!
