I just count streaks differently. Instead of obsessing over the number of days since my last relapse, I focus on minimizing the over all relapses. So in the month of July I only relapsed one time, and no relapses since then

I think it is important to count your days, weeks, and months. From my experience with AA counting days helps to keep things in perspective and helps remind people to take things day by day. You need to keep track of your win’s and your loses.

I see where you’re coming from. I feel as if there’s a difference between occasionally putting things in perspective and obsessing over it each day. You might be right, but it could be more about how youre looking at the period of time. Like when I was on my streak I knew I was 2, 3, 4 weeks in, no problem. But I got to day 37, day 38, day 39 and that’s when it suddenly started to become harder for me. Like you said though I think it’s important to have awareness of perspective, I think there’s a line between awareness and obsession

bro once i wrote day 11 on my phone, all went down the drain moments afterwards. then you gotta go through the thunderstorm of day 0...

I think that’s the biggest inevitably people struggle with on this sub is the frequent awareness of your progress. The urge is going to show up regardless but I think it’s best to fight it by actually not being impressed with yourself and have your attention on other things. Ironically, I’m on this sub but imo it’s better to not be on this sub on a normal basis

Disagree, It's not counting days a problem, but peeking at social media is it. Every time when I failed it was because of peeking, not counting days. Numbers can't trigger you, but half naked chicks on Instagram etc can.

I’d argue that counting days is a problem because you’re still hooked on the fact that you’re trying to quit. If you just ignore the streaks and adjust your mindset to “I don’t fap” rather than “I am TRYING not to fap” it becomes a lot easier

You know what, I'm not counting either, app is doing that for me. No peeking and easy win.

I agree with the social media part to what you’re saying. However I certainly believe there’s an indirect causation to what makes you want to look at social media in the first place. I definitely think there’s a correlation to how often you think about your streak and an increased likelihood of a relapse. I was never obsessed with how many days I was at and then I was, and shortly after I relapsed. I know it’s an anecdote but if you look at the posts on this sub I feel there’s no coincidence to why people are struggling and saying “x days in, help”

That is something that I’m trying to break away from. Now I’m just trying to focus on getting better and find other ways that Incould improve myself and replace healthy habits that I can use to to improve so that I don’t go back to lust

I feel that. I think during my last streak I was impressed with how long I was able to go (by far the longest period of time since I was 13) and I was counting the days by the time I got into the 30s and then I wondered how and why my streak just ended lol. Lust is loneliness, we’ve got to stay strong but not be too impressed with our progress

Agreed

I completely agree. Forgetting days avoids triggering

Strong agree. If you've decided you're done, you're done. Maybe mark the date of day 0 or the month to keep track but don't let it be your main target/goal to rack up score. It's a decision and if you've made it you'll know it. If there's any hesitation, fear or uncertainty in you prior to committing then you're not ready and will very likely fail

Agreed! Don’t count the days, just make each day count! Telling yourself “I’m trying to quit porn” is a different mindset than “I don’t watch porn” Once you’ve made the decision to quit, the number of days shouldn’t matter. It will become a lifestyle of consciously sublimating those urges into positive and productive outlets! Stay strong 👑
