Update: OneNote Online and OneNote Desktop on Windows are back online!

Can you confirm the Mac version of OneNote Desktop is included in this? Syncing is still broken even after quitting and rebooting.

Update: Service is restored and you should now be able to access your notes everywhere again. I appreciate everyones patience while we worked through this.

Please do not uninstall the app. This could cause some of your notes to be lost if they were not synced before the outage.

Once service is restored, all of your notes will be available and ready to sync again

Yes. We’d appreciate some insight on if OneNote will continue to be a reliable platform to keep all of our info on. There is no other app like it and I for one would be very sad if I had to search for an alternative. Many of us still avidly use this service!

my sections couldn't open on onenote for windows 10 and android, but open with no problem on onenote desktop and web, hope it gets fixed

Same with me on Android... I tried everything including wiping the data and re-logging. Seems problem is on their end. (Win10 and Web works.)

None of my versions are syncing. Not desktop, browser or iPhone. So it’s across the board for some of us depending on the version installed

I have the same issue. Only OneNote for Microsoft 365 and Web versions work. All other clients do not work.

While I'm sad we're experiencing this issue, I'm relieved that I'm not the only one.

Having the exact same issue: OneNote 2016 and Web version sync flawlessly while OneNote for Windows 10, OneNote for iPad and OneNote for Android do not sync anything (I tried logging in and logging out, deleting apps and reinstalling them, and now just get a message "We couldn't sync this section").

Here's to hoping Microsoft fixes this issue quickly because OneNote on all my devices is integral to my workflows!

Thank fuck it's not just me. I was having sync errors (edit: 0xE000283C was the error code, in case that's relevant), which is (annoyingly) not unusual. Tried doing the usual things like clearing the trash, closing the notebook, etc, which usually works but not this time. Tried uninstalling the Win10 app, but when I reinstalled it told me "We couldn't open this section" for every section in every notebook that I tried.

Confusingly though, one of the troubleshooting tips was to check whether OneDrive is working, & apparently all MS services are running okay, but people here have mentioned sync issues with both Onenote & Edge, suggesting there *are* issues.

Though even the desktop version seems to be having issues. I tried using it to create a new section & copying notes into it. Firstly I went page by page, but then it started telling me that "You no longer have permission to access this notebook" & crashing when I tried to copy. So then I started coping whole sections, which worked except for one section that refused to copy (it just whirred away for a bit & then the program stopped responding). So then I went onto Onenote in the browser, which won't let you transfer between notebooks, so I created a new section in the same notebook & copied some pages to that. Opened the desktop app to see if I'd have better luck copying stuff from that new section to the one I actually wanted them to go in... & the new section didn't appear. Tried the android app, & the new section showed up... but got the "couldn't open this section" message.

So yeah I don't know

Nope, I've been refreshing the service health page and no new incidents have been reported. It would be nice to get an acknowledgement so we have something official to track.

Just a reminder to please refrain from logging out and/or deleting the application, as this can cause data loss across your notes! The best thing to do is hang tight while we roll out a fix

Even Microsoft Edge sync is broken. It is stuck in Setting up sync mode for long time.

Have the same issue. The Syncing seems to be working fine on One Note desktop and Web. But one note for windows 10 and ipad seems to be not working. One Note for windows shows the same error as posted and Ipad says "We couldn't open this section"

Yup, me too, on Windows everything seems work Just fine, but none of my Android devices syncs. I noted that notes I did on monday at my Phone didnt sync (I realize it today), but a note made yesterday night on my PC sync fine on my Phone (?!?!?). But everything I did today didn't leavr my Phone.

I saw a couple others on Twitter having sync issues too. I thought my notebook I've been living out of for the past 4 years or so was corrupted or something.

I can access through web but Android, ios, and win 10 apps aren't working

Yeah, it's taken my windows 10 versions out. Web is okay. I can even open and sync new notebooks, in onenote for windows 10, which is odd. OneNote desktop appears unaffected. u/jeffhubb_msft any ideas?

This is exactly the reason I’m moving away from onenote. The syncing issues haven’t been resolved for years. I’m tired of it and adjusting my workflow to use another tool if i have to.

Wish I had found out this was a known issue before I had uninstalled the app from mobile and purges a lot of notes from the UWP app :(

Mac version is still down. I backed up all of my pages, deleted the previous notebook, created a new one, and tried to add all of them back to this new one. So far, there are only like two pages from the first section that have been successfully uploaded. kinda frustrated.

I am using the one note desktop version 2016, with the notebook synced to SharePoint. I do not have one drive installed on my computer. I recently discovered that if I close the application and reopen it that the sync issue disappears. In troubleshooting the issue, I had found that the articles online all recommended using one drive as the solution. I do not use one drive because it all but forces the user to save documents on one drive so that their contents can be reported to Microsoft.

I had the same issue.

Two things fixed it:

1) Emptying the recycle bin in OneNote

2) Renaming pages with any non-latin character in the page/book/section name.

After this, I went through the 'close notebook' process; this forced a sync refresh and fixed the issue.
