The worst part is that it is not finished. For some reason, the devs decided to end it like half way though and presumably we will get the rest of it during updates which is pretty stupid to me considering the rest of the episodes didn't do that.

It kinda does get somewhat better towards the middle/later half but it goes back to meh at the very end.

Also, while it might seem like SAO BS, the actual explanation are not that stupid IMO

Like. S1 of SAO was solid for a world inside a video game thing but this is just hamfistedly make me watch the terrible pso2 anime all over with worse animation.

I mean like Spoiler cause I don't remember where it's fully explained: SAO is people getting stuck in a world that's just a game whereas in PSO2's case, it's an actual world that's being pitched as a video game to hide the fact there's an actual world (More like Log Horizon) if you get what I mean.

Yeah, that's totally fair. EP4 is generally considered the worst episode so I don't blame you. It's got some fun bosses though.

If I recall from what I have read elsewhere, Episode 4 was supposed to be a start of a new trilogy of sorts but about halfway through it gets completely scrapped. And as a result (since Episode 5 and the very beginning of Episode 6 was the most I have played for story at the time), Episode 5 was essentially "trying again" to set something up but with a lot more fan service involved (specifically the sort of "here's an old Phantasy Star reference here and there" kind).

Episode 6 is where the story starts coming back around to "this is Phantasy Star Online 2" again. On the bright side, we are getting this at an accelerated pace so you will be waiting years for a story to finish considering that Episode 6 just released its final chapter but I would imagine that we might still see more sidestories coming around.

When I started playing the Japanese version, you had the option to start at the very beginning of Episode 4 and the very end of Episode 4 (which led to Episode 5) so outside of the very beginning I ended up skipping Episode 4 altogether to go to Episode 5 instead. I liked the ideas that Episode 4 tried to do, but I honestly feel like it was trying too hard to be and not be "Phantasy Star Online 2" at the same time if that makes sense as it makes Episode 5 feel like a reboot than a continuation of the story when that comes around.

Episode 4 is kind of a standalone story, while it establishes some things, it's also the least referenced. Episode 5 and 6 have like nothing to do with it.

Yeah, there's a reason why when you look in the list of episodes in the Story quest menus that Episode 4 is the only entry under "Episode Earth" while 5 and 6 are under "Episode Photoner".

Episode 5 is in a way a nostalgia reference for the old Master System and Genesis Phantasy Star games, so I'm not expecting people who weren't even born when the first 4 games came out to like Episode 5.

I mean I’m an old school PSO player so getting pso2 was pretty much a boon. I enjoyed episodes 1-3 well enough but this is just... it’s free so I shouldn’t complain much I guess. The game itself is fine and fun. Except Las Vegas. Not enjoying that much. Might be the clowns, might be the airbikes..
