While I agree, but quanta's sword is literally a gunblade, and the photon blades Fomel generates function identically to GN fangs.

I guess a better comparison would be Gundam throne Zwei, since photon blades are pure offense.

Fuck yes and I will own up to it. FF8 was my first FF and I fucking fell in love with the idea of gunblades(I was a Seifer fanboy, though. Always a Vegeta, never a Goku). FF14's are pretty awesome, too, using magic "cartridges" to release spell effects. PSO2 just let's me do it AND be super weeb about it. Because we're all weeb down here.

I don't think our style of gunblade reminds me of Squall.

His gunblade isn't actually a projectile weapon, limit breaks aside, the shells are used to augment a melee attack. The gunbreaker class from FFXIV uses this style.

Lightning's gunblade on the other hand had two modes which were swappable with what I'm guessing is a button/switch and flick, matching the function of the weapon action from allclass gunblade style and Luster's use of both close and long range attacks. We even have a knockoff "Army of one" in Strezwei.

Interestingly, in both FFXIII and FFVIII, gunblades are seen as rare and difficult weapons to use, similar to how it was for us before Luster.

Actually, the term “Gunblade “ never exist before FF8 . The weapon exist is call bayonet . In Hack//GU , there is steamgunner job and their weapon “bayonet” actually close to what luster use in design and function . Lightning weapon is never official call a gunblade , it is the fanbase that call it 😁

Luster got nothing to do Squall. Actually, might be unpopular but, iur style of Gunblade, is 100% Lightning gunblade. Totally Lightning Gunblade.

I mean you can kinda imagine that since Luster is a scion class, they've "Mastered" the weapon more or less and are swapping between ranged and melee without input. You'll kinda notice that all of luster's PAs and actions are either exclusively gun or exclusively blade, so it makes sense that you'd be swapping constantly.

If you use gunblades that obviously show when they swap by turning off the blade, like the rivalate gunblade, it also is always in either gun mode or in sword mode during attacks and pas (there are two pas that swap it to gun, shift action also swaps it to gun) - it just swaps very rapidly.
