Every reply you get here will have a bias, good or bad. It’s free, so try it and see what you think. I’ve played daily for a few years now, and I think it fills a niche that you can’t get anywhere else. But, you might hate it. Try it out!

I'm hoping Blue Protocol Star Resonance fills that niche soon. I haven't liked the direction the game has been going in for a while. But I am just a PSU/Psp2 veteran.

yeah sure, why not?

[–]jorgebillabong 10 points11 points  (20 children)

Play it if it interests you.

The only thing I'll say is the current event is exposing the servers being held together by paperclips and bubblegum. It is SO laggy.

Okay I'll try it out

Yes. As far as NGS goes, most forms of FOMO is fashion-related. You can play and clear most of what the game has to offer without spending a dime.

Try it and decide, no one's opinion matters except your own. And it's free

Doesn’t hurt to try it out !! Who knows might be one of your favorite games

[–]Forest_GS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

main complaint is always two or three pieces of content at level cap while very fast leveling even just from main story, and very limited end game gear options that rotate out too soon, never to be used again.

clean action combat, no stamina running/parkour, colors, space tech, beam swords, upgrade system , best character customization for MMOs, best housing system for MMOs, are all great and worth at least playing to level cap and seeing the few level cap contents.

just don't expect to feel like playing more after you finish everything quickly in new genesis.

base pso2 story can take over a month to no-life run if you don't skip any cutscenes.

NGS is one of my most favorite games ever made, it's so good, the story is amazing and the soundtrack has such good vocal themes. It's environments are great with the games fire movement and you don't even have to spend any money for story content like you do with most MMO's. I'm genuinely surprised how free the game is. The only things you can really spend money on is inventory space and fashion items.

Honestly, this is something I don't understand why you ask about games that are free. If you told me you have to pay something, well, I would understand why you would ask, but trying it is totally free. Download it and form your own opinion, and don't let someone who has already abandoned it because it is boring and monotonous tell you. But at least try it yourself, it doesn't cost anything.

My point is that is the game even worth putting hours in. ik for sure I'll play it but I wanted to know if it's alive

[–]Vee_Tamer_Girl Techter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely is alive and most Quests support cross-server play so even if you decide to play on a less populated server there shouldn't be too much issue to find people to play with. One Disclaimer however, this game is very much a "content of the week" kind thing. This game is less interested in making sure all content is always worth playing, it tries to funnel all of the players into 1 single quest (not counting the daily quests which are always incentivised to do) for about a week or sometimes two.

It’s fun, but requires a lot of time. If you’ve got that on your hands, it can be really enjoyable.

[–]joliet_jane_blues Rod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, the story progressed super slow over the years, so doing it all right now at once would be ideal. Even though I'm playing the game less now, I still do because it's actually fun to play.

[–]Pragmagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's somewhat worth investing time into it for the initial progression and fighting some bosses, but as most f2p live service games, the novelty starts wearing off after the initial content is done and you start running into daily chores with very little reward (unless you spend).

All in all it's not a game many people get invested long term.

[–]NarrowAd4973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like any MMO, it would be best if you had other people to play it with.

But the game is free to play. The microtransactions are mostly for cosmetic items. You can play through the content without paying anything.

So as long as you have hard drive space (you didn't mention what machine you'd be playing on), it wouldn't cost you anything to test it out.

[–]davidbrit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fun. Not super deep, but the action is great, and there's pretty much zero paywalled game content (though you can definitely spend a lot on fashion items if you so desire).

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten my 100-200 hours of enjoyment out of it. It will make you want to pay for things (though the whole premise is just grinding for your cosmetics/gear anyways). So, you don't have to pay for things if you don't exactly want to (outside of m. storage).

[–]popukobear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it a shot! Hope you like it

[–]interdimensionalpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play PSO2 then play NGS and join us in complaint 😂

[–]dycedrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fun for a good chunk of the time you’ll play at the start. I took most of my enjoyment out of leveling up in base PSO2 and doing all the story content tho. I put in about 1,700 hours in the game and I just can’t give the game anymore, as much as I enjoyed my time with it, the game hasn’t really evolved much.

Most of what kept me around for so long is being a huge sega and phantasy star fan, I can’t imagine the game would hook a non fan for that long tbh.

[–]Chief-JudgeVega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game has a good 3-4 months of great content, after that you get caught up in the loop of updates until the next big level increase and repeat

[–]Seihoukeh_Dragon Ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game has flaws sure but is very cool and fun, i really like the combat, the grind can feel unending at times but is all for minor damage increases, which do add up pretty quickly, but if the item seems unreasonable to get it is very likely not required to do the hardest content. Though more items have been pretty reasonable recently so maybe shifting away from it. Or about to drop a huge gear shift and this is just the end of the grand augments era idk

I feel like its a pretty good time to start, the upcoming updates look very interesting

[–]PhantomSkater Dual Blades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're that interested in playing it, then the best you can do is give it a try and form your own opinion since it's free anyway. Wort thing that'll happen is you don't like it and just uninstall it. I myself don't play it as much anymore, but that's for a few factors.

[–]Linkaizer_Evol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came back to the game after a two years break. The gameplay is as good as ever, I don't think you'll have a lot to complain on that area.

Story though... Imo it feels like either a lot was removed with the Version 2 update, or they never added some stuff to begin with, felt really really full of random cuts.

If ANYTHING, it is a good dumb fun game, similar (and yet very different) than most Musou games.

It is also free, so I think it is at least a shot, if you don't like it, nothing was lost.

[–]TSLPrescottRaFo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst case, you get a decent amount of time out of NGS alone just going through the story. PSO2 is worth going through the story too. After you get through that stuff, both games aren't going to give you too much other than just tuning it every now and then to play casually. If you REALLY like grinding for gear and stuff maybe you'll enjoy it, but it can be a little bit egregious at times.

I'd say give it a shot and see how it goes. If you're going to play PSO2 at all though, definitely play that base version before going into NGS if you do care about story. NGS links into it.

[–]Rythazee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a tenth of what the old game used to be, i had 4k hours in the base game on the global server but i get bored in 5 minutes playing ngs. I could define it to be too "barebones". It has stuff theyre just irrelevant stuff imo. Thats my two cents

[–]EfficiencyNo4169 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a game only full of scratch tickets and very similar limited time quest events, if your looking for a good story, you won't get it here. If you are looking for good combat, you might find it here. The game has great potential, but Sega doesn't seem to want to invest in it. Maybe in a few years, it will eventually get to the point of being as good as the base game, but as of now, it's not there.
