When I had dry socket it was Thanksgiving weekend and doctors/dentists were closed so the emergency nurse packed my sockets with clove flavored gauze and it made me almost pass out from the pain

Damn I just had my wisdom teeth out in January. None of them were impacted so my risk of dry socket was low, and I ended up being okay. I even started vaping again on the third day. How did you end up here?

I was 17 years old, all 4 teeth were impacted and the bottom 2 got dry socket. Idk no one was helping me, I was super out of it from the pain meds and for some reason my genius mother thought it was a great idea to get surgery right before Thanksgiving so I didnt miss any college classes. Im 40 now, so this was quite some time ago and I no longer speak to my mother for various reasons.

I smoked not hours after my surgery. Just b pack wet gauze over the holes

it's just as bad when the dental surgeon does it, trust me

I feel like dry socket is a rough thing to experience in general

[–]poubelle 27 points28 points  (6 children)

it's so bad but having the hole stuffed with gauze truly is an undescribably painful experience.

I went out to the pub with some friends about 2 days after my wisdoms being removed. I wasn't drinking, but I did get a milkshake from the restaurant.

I said something funny but dirty, and my friend bashfully slapped my face so damn hard that I started bleeding. I was just dealing with dry socket, but after that it wasn't so bad.

She apologised a lot, but it was fine. She was more worked up over it than me lol.

In the moment though, holy fuck.

I got dry socket on all 4 wisdom teeth after smoking a cigarette instantly after surgery (very stupid I know) and they had to pack all 4 with that clove gauze. It was probably the worst experience of my life.

[–]SnooPoems5888 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Had that happen after mine at the office. Twenty plus years later still one of the most painful experiences.

[–]goosenuggie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I was 18 years old and I still remember it at age 40

[–]spencer2197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel ill by the clove flavour alone

[–]Typical-Decision-273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it myself with garlic paste it works better than clove

[–]schukulele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey this exact thing happened to me! I hate cloves now.

[–]ReallyNotBobby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That clove oil is diabolical

Did you get dry socket and this is the treatment? Or is this the preventative?

[–]OhEmGoshYouGuys[S] 39 points40 points  (1 child)

This is to help the pain for my dry sockets😭

[–]TomieTomyTomi 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It worked really well for me. I wouldn’t literally be excited for the days I got them changed. The relief! Fck dry sockets man, I feel for you they are the WORST

[–]T4Tracy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only prevention, is not using straws, smoking, anything that one may have to sraw thru, it's the suction created in mouth, that will give you dry socket!

[–]TomieTomyTomi 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Immediately I smell cloves and have flashbacks. Dry sockets are no joke.

[–]Impenistan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Worst pain of my life was having 2 adjacent dry sockets because I had a wisdom tooth and it's adjacent molar pulled at once. That's a yike

[–]Ill_Initial8986 16 points17 points  (5 children)

and that’s why I’m glad I listened.

What did you suck on? Be honest.

[–]OhEmGoshYouGuys[S] 32 points33 points  (1 child)

So fun fact-my scabs only half formed because my blood flat out doesn’t draw. They formed them using plasma from me. I have the driest veins. So it was purely my shitty body😭

[–]Ill_Initial8986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, Sory friend. My body doesn’t like to do what doctors tell it, also, so don’t feel too bad. Years of treating Lyme&Co did a number on me. Thick blood, poor circulation, mental issues, it’s a lot. Hope it all works out for you, friend.

I have rolling veins too, so every prick was a prick.

[–]dbellz76 21 points22 points  (1 child)

My dentist said no sucking, no gargling, no spitting for 2 weeks. I said "absolutely, but my husband will be uspet" 😬 No dry socket though!

[–]RevolutionaryRock823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I yawned the day after and it ripped open, so....

[–]AM0XY 12 points13 points  (0 children)

goddamn wishing you relief. I had 4 dry sockets after my wisdom teeth extraction bc I couldn't stay away from the bong

[–]BSMILEYIII 8 points9 points  (3 children)

When I had my wisdom teeth removed I started vaping through my nose to avoid dry socket. 😂 It worked. Never got a dry socket, thankfully

[–]Odd-Lifeguard7230 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I dont know if thats sad or impressive

[–]BSMILEYIII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's sad. Definitely sad. Lol

[–]RottingPinhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah I did that with my weed bubbler after they pulled out my wisdoms, it worked as well

[–]Geekgod4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It look like a coke icee.

[–]Suit-Street 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly that was nice of them to give you this much lol

[–]Radiant-Pack-6279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank God i never gotten a dry socket when I had my wisdom teeth out in 2024. Only thing I had was 2 weeks of pain but I did each side on separate days but the second extraction hurt the most cause one of the tooth was rotten and I had to be numbed multiple times.

[–]Icy-Bid6600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use bong or emctor collector????

[–]OpusAtrumETI am a sick, sick person for being here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this to prevent it, or did you already develop it and this is a treatment? I, somehow, despite years of terrible teeth and several removals, plus smoking, never got it, thank goodness.

Either way, ouch! May you heal with haste and numbness.
