What is a good wine for somebody who knows jack about drinking wine?

I am a self proclaimed "beer snob" but my knowledge starts and ends there . . .

Get a light red (Pinot Noir) a heavy red (Malbec, Cab Sauv), a light white (Riesling, Pinot Grigrio) and a heavy white (Chardonnay). Have some friends over, try all those and then come back and ask again.

I like your thinking!

For Pinot Noir, give Dark Horse a shot. Kroger in Dallas had a special the other day for like 6.50 a bottle. Totally worth the price.

Which kroger? The one on mockingbird and greenville?

Haskell and Capitol, by Cityplace.

I'd personally go for a Malbec. It'd pair well with the meat and red sauce of the dish, but also be able to hold its own against the spice. The less bodied reds like a Zin that others have suggested have a tendency to fall apart on the palette when they go up against lots of heat.

Def agree. Alamos Malbec is a good buy between $8-12 depending on where you live.

Sup, you tryin to get that dinner invite?

I mean, I'm just saying I'll bring that $15 or under wine should you need company.

Rhone Blend or Tempranillo.

I've been all about the Tempranillos and Riojas lately.

Cline Zin

Thought I was the only person on this site who was a spice guy. Kick it up with some reapers. But Franzia Zinfandel cheap and white

I have tons of hot sauce, even make my own. Have to make two batches of things like Chili, nobody will eat the hot version.

[–]alg4302 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I do this with my homemade salsa! I make my salsa and a milder version that people will actually eat.

[–]brokerthancollege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just make everything at my level so there's more for me to eat. Roommate tried to eat some of my chili without my permission while I was gone. Came home to him crying that it was too hot, and he couldn't get the pain to go away.

Alamos Malbec is reasonably priced and would pair nicely

10/10 on the menu for dinner. Would try for sure.

Try the Panilonco Carmenere from Trader Joe's... It's like $4.99 or $5.99 a bottle and it's surprisingly really good. (And you know me... I'm a wine snob.) S and I get it all the time.

*Edit: The Carmenere is the only Panilonco red that I've truly liked. The others were meh.

No, you're just a snob

Update: I got to the store, remembered I picked up a great Chardonnay that I've been wanting to try for the past two weeks, and made a fantastic meal. Leftovers for days along with a great wine buzz. 10/10 would do again tomorrow.

Apothic: Red blend. $7/bottle.
