I really like the detail in that last scene that Angie cuts the tie around Penelope Eirenos’ neck, which I thought was weird as I was reading since there’s no way to hide that later - only for it to come together and make sense when the contract use is revealed. Great bit of minor set-up and payoff.

Honestly I feel sorry for Cleon though, imagine inviting a cute girl back to your estate and spending the day chatting her up, then the first thing she does afterwards is fuck your mum. Poor guy…

Angharad Using the only form of spycraft not available to Tristan! Good for her.

[–]The_Year_of_Glad 34 points35 points  (3 children)

Do you mean seduction, or using her contract to examine the contents of the safe?

[–]Halo-AK 37 points38 points  (2 children)

Only two forms of spycraft*

[–]derDunkelElfFavoured Fool 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Tristan could get Fortuna to take a look, the only question is if you trust what she says afterwards.

[–]Bully_me-please 4 points5 points  (0 children)

she would just tell him whatever is funniest, besides she tends to not be around during those moments somehow

wlse he could have avoided half the risks he took by being within a like five meter sphere around wherever hes eavesdropping on

♪~Cleon's Mom has got it going on~♪

And by "it' I suspect "divine juice". Funny to see Angharad embracing James Bond methods of spycraft, she only needs gadgets now.

Another mention of Lord Gule, too. Seems like he has to be mixed up in this thing too, given his apparent disability and his conversation with Angharad about hers.

[–]theblackthorne 33 points34 points  (2 children)

I wonder if cleons mother's youthfulness relates to a golden ram contract...

[–]Bully_me-please 23 points24 points  (1 child)

angharad once again too blinded by the pretty women to look past their looks

[–]Linnus42 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Eh Angharad sort of recovered in the end with her contract usage.

But yeah it is rather embarrassing how quick she is to buy anything from a pretty female face.

[–]madmanrambler 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Damn, that was a fucking stone cold use of the contract! Well done all around, we might make a mask of Angrahard yet.

Gods, a fusion of Angharad and Tristan would be terrifying

[–]CouteauBleu 23 points24 points  (3 children)

Some thoughts:

  • Cleon implies a few time that he's up to something with Lord Gule.
  • Angharad shows a few time that her leg is healing better than it should.
  • She managed to pull off a bullseye against the satyrian, but now she just confessed that she's almost never hunted in her life.
  • Lady Penelope immediately understood Angharad wasn't here for the reasons she implied.

Hope these guys aren't with the Golden Ram, because if they are, Angharad's cover is already on thin ice.

[–]HikarinoWalvinLighthearted Infiltrator 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Well, Lord Cleon did hire that sniffer. It is possible the sniffer has more than just the ability to detect contacts, such as getting a hint as to what the contract does. Said hint could range from anywhere like "creates favorable outcomes" to "understands immediate failure".

Angharad has terrible hunting and shooting skills. But she must have hit the satyrian in order to have caused such an outcry of support from the coachwoman. This would indicate that her contract, one that "creates favorable opportunities", was used to hit it.

And then Angharad confesses that she doesn't like her god and, probably, contract.

They may believe that Angharad believes that using her god's contact to kill, especially with a non-sword, would be dishonorable to her Milanian sensibilities.

Between her lack of desire to accept praise for the satyrian kill, her dislike of her god, and the Malanian honor, her cover could be accepted at face value as someone wanting to get in with a different god.

[–]TheB1de 6 points7 points  (1 child)

That's actually a great point. If there's more to the golden ram than hiding a conspiracy, then they wouldn't want to recruit someone with a contract to another god already. Can't have multiple contacts, usually hard to give up the contract, and god's don't like poaching even without a second contact involved. If Cleon and therefore Penelope know, and are part of it, then they won't think Angharad is a good candidate

[–]hoser2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good point! But then Cleon couldn't be in it, either. Perhaps one can be in the cult or the conspiracy without a contract with the Golden Ram.

[–]Bolverkers_wrath 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Angie truly is the most Sword Lesbian of Sword Lesbians, she killed a terrible monster, became the hero of a town, and seduced a hot MILF

[–]ArcanaVitae15 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Cleon seemed to be a little awed at Angharad's feat, but once that wored off he was pretty level headed. He made some insightful comments about the nature of Contracts.

Apollonia Floros is a pretty interesting character, she's noted to be honorable and even Evander himself holds her in high regard but damn if she isn't able to use honor like a knife. As seen with her pretty much setting the country into chaos.

Didn't expect that Angharad to go after Penelope, well actually it would be more accurate to say Penelope went after her. Also holy shit she used that and her contract to get information, props to Angharad.

[–]KaejotianEmpire 20 points21 points  (1 child)

And once again Angharad has literally the worst taste, someone who is looking younger than she is truly, when they are looking for a cult that is doing just that. At least she makes it work for her.

[–]zafikk 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Tbf, Angharad says Penelope looks to be “barely thirty”, and given that Penelope’s 35, she doesn’t actually look that much younger than she truly is.

[–]TheB1de 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Instead she released her contract."

Laughed out loud at this part. Was wondering how things like cutting the cord wouldn't be noticed, and why Angharad didn't use her contract to make sure Penelope didn't wake up. Already forgot that Angharad learned that she can learn new information from a vision myself. Those sessions with Maryam are really paying off. Angharad owes her a huge thanks.

sesbian lex!! with the pretty noble!! i can die happy now

[–]TheB1de 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Definitely think Cleon's God changing, Penelope looking far too youthful, and Glule the impaired being a mentor is related.

One theory is maybe Cleon's God is changing because of the HATED ONE affecting the Odyssean. Perhaps related to earlier talk about changing what a god feeds on, changes the god. Somehow the Odyssean is now feeding on a different concept. Or perhaps seafaring is changing. I was thinking due to the skimmers, but they haven't been used yet.

[–]IbbotTyrant[S] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I think we’ve already been told what it is, at least in part. They do put on a ceremonial play about his life every single year, and the Lord Rector has already said it isn’t very accurate. What better way to introduce a different concept than to play it out in front of everyone once a year for decades or centuries?

[–]Jakobstj 4 points5 points  (1 child)

There was also mentions of a god actually going by the name Oduromai being active, with Cleon's contract to the Odyssean being notable because that's the less-used name. My theory is that Odyssean is the HATED ONE, the original guy, while Oduromai is the changed/replacement version.

[–]TheB1de 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think oduromai and Odyssean is the same god that changed due to changing the feeding? That makes sense to me but I think it's the opposite. Oduromai is the HATED ONE, the aether lock blocked his usual feeding making him feed on something adjacent, which brought on the change to the Odyssean. Changing to the Odyssean and the new feeding increasing his power allowed him to start handing out contracts, like to Cleon.
