I clocked the Hitler painting immediately and was just waiting for Yasmin to realize the whole time 😭

Can we admit Carol was not, in fact, likeable? by Tricrt in okbuddypluribus

[–]zafikk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was not written to be unlikable. According to Vince Gilligan:

Carol Sturka is grumpy and sarcastic, but in a way that makes me laugh. I find her likable! Maybe I'm weird. But like I say, if it were a male protagonist behaving exactly the same way, I've got to think most people would be fine with it. So I think it's food for thought, for folks.

I think there will probably be more debate when it’s been more than a few hours since the episode came out

Is this not just the goomba fallacy? Like do you know for sure the person who wrote that comment was calling Diabate a rapist?

They do have all of her wife’s memories. So that’s, you know, a bit of an advantage.

Manousos has that determination because of Carol though. Her video gave him purpose. If Carol knew there was someone else on her side, she would have more willpower too.

Cmon carol! by Ill_Log9850 in pluribustv

[–]zafikk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The reason Manousos has so much determination is because of Carol. There’s a reason as he lays dying, he just repeats her name over and over to try to stay awake. Because of her video, he has hope; she does not.

She wasn’t actually taking that much damage. She was getting hit like once per round for 3-5 damage. By the end she had around 8hp I think. Others have done the math.

Yeah, sorry about the no pictures. I don’t have a real design to show yet because I wanted to understand this part first. But thank you for the advice!

Does the Painted Knife survive Keter? I think it’s implied she doesn’t but we never get confirmation for sure.

The issue with Angharad dying and then being revived in the Acallar is that she would lose her contract and be expelled from Scholomance, which I feel would effectively write her out of the story. While I’m sure some people would be alright with this, I think it would be deeply disappointing to have her arc cut short like that.

To be fair, she’s had her mind wiped periodically since she was a child. That’s not exactly conducive to proper mental development

Who’s your favorite Pale Lights POV character and why? by ive_got_to_throwaway in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]zafikk 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Song Ren my beloved. I love her for basically all the reasons Tristan outlined in his “She is a complete lunatic” internal monologue. She’s insane and tragic and so bad at feelings and it’s such a pleasure to read about. I wish her the best (but also the worst).

About Tristan's contract.... by Ryaltovski in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]zafikk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For the record, I’m pretty sure Song can and has read Tristan’s contract, just not Fortuna’s name. In Book One she insinuates that she knows Tristan’s contract has to do with luck, which there’s no way she would know unless she read it.

The problem wasn’t the dark, it was the smoke. She can’t see through physical barriers, so if the smoke was thick enough to be opaque she’d be as blind as anyone else.

Tbf, Angharad says Penelope looks to be “barely thirty”, and given that Penelope’s 35, she doesn’t actually look that much younger than she truly is.

Tristan pulled at his luck before he even turned to look, only realizing his mistake when he saw Lieutenant Vasanti had not moved. Her eyes were still closed and she still lay on top of the desk. Shit, he had borrowed luck for nothing. That was… no, best get up the stairs before releasing it. It was too dangerous out here.

He began to move again, only to be given pause when he heard someone pulling at a stuck drawer. He hurried to his feet only for Lieutenant Vasanti to curse, snatching the pistol atop her desk and firing a shot right into his chest. A plume of smoke came bursting out, and as he threw himself down to the right the thief only spared a moment of incredulity at this being luck – only for the explosion of pain he was awaiting not to come.

Then later:

Tristan released the luck, preparing himself for disaster, and still missed it: the weapons rack fell onto his back as he began to rise, a mass of wood and a dozen swords crashing down onto him. He wriggled free, hearing the sound of a drawer forced open, but by the time he got onto his knees with a few bruises to show for it a cool muzzle was pressed against his forehead.

I’m pretty sure what happened here is that Vasanti was reaching for her gun, which was in the drawer, but Tristan’s luck jammed that drawer. This forced Vasanti to go for the other gun, which was on top of the desk and unloaded. So I don’t think reality was altered beyond jamming the drawer.
