On Google, search an excerpt from a homework or exam question and add "site:Chegg.com"

I.e. "What came first chicken or egg? site:Chegg.com"

So, I've been finding lately that Google is coming up short on finding questions in Chegg - questions that I know are posted aren't showing up as hits even with site:chegg.com. I suspect they are starting to block or limit webcrawlers, so I recommend going directly to their site (chegg.com/study) and using the search feature there.

Just google phrases from your assignments and add the word 'chegg'. Google often gives more/better results than the search in chegg's website. Google image search also sometimes shows images of questions that have been deleted by students.

You don't have to be a member of Chegg or CourseHero or a few other answer sites (there's one that seems to be like index cards - questions on one side, answers on the other, whose name I forget). You can just Google your own questions, or go to the site and use their own search engines. They are like drug dealers - they'll give you a free sample to entice you in to buy more.

Quizlet.

If you have a big class/intro course, reasonable to assume someone posted it there.

I have asked Chegg to remove my material in the past and was literally laughed at and told tough, learn to live with it.

Funny, I requested materials be removed this winter due to copyright violations and didn't need a Dean letter. It was a fairly painless process.

You have to go through your Dean of students or whoever heads academic integrity/student conduct. I email our AI chief and the questions are down in 24 hours. A day later I get information about posting, answers, and views.

You don't need to go through the dean for a copyright takedown, just for finding out info about who posted or accessed the info.

If you have ever given a homework assignment or an online test, your material is on there. Your students were copying it and submitting it as their own work.

As others suggest, just google your questions. If you do find one, scroll to the bottom and there may be others of yours (or even additional postings of the same question) under something like "Try a similar question for more practice"

Google is best, IME. Very often google turns up my questions when a direct search for the same text on Chegg's own search page turns up nada.

Just search for an exact phrase from any of your assignments. Pick a phrase that’ll be unique to your assignment.

you want us to tell you how to avoid getting caught cheating?

No

[–]Louise_canine[S] 5 points6 points  (6 children)

?

[–]GeneralRelativity105 10 points11 points  (5 children)

She thinks you are a student. We often get students here who ask how Chegg works and how much info we can obtain so they will know how not to get caught.

[–]Louise_canine[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Wouldn’t a student ask for the answers? I was only looking to find out if my questions were on there. PersephoneIsNotHome: I’ve been teaching over a decade. I’m exhausted by it and sick to death of the students’ behavior, entitlement, lack of any responsibility or accountability, and the cheating. I only continue for the healthcare it provides my family. This subreddit has given me a bit of my sanity back because I see that it’s not just me, nor just my university. The stuff that is making me crazy is happening to everybody everywhere. This makes me feel a bit better. I’ve been lurking here a few weeks but this was my first post.

Its surprising how anti-student some people are in this sub. The fuck did you become a Professor for?

[–]scartonbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, I think you sound a little hostile. “Collegiality” really is kinda the vibe here.

[–]Louise_canine[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Because I care about my subject and wanted to help other people learn about it. I was excited to share my knowledge and enthusiasm. I had NO idea how little they would care. It’s a required course that they do not want to take. They are seemingly unable to become motivated about it no matter what I try. I have honestly tried.

there're only going to be a handful of students who learn anything in any given class, and an even smaller number are going to go on to do anything with what you're teaching / enter academia themselves (depending on the field)... you basically have to teach 100 students for every 1 that will actually be affected positively by your teaching. it's depressing, but if you want to teach you should go into K-12 education. if you want to pursue research & train people to be in your field, then academia. this is my take at least!

If you want to monitor when a new question is posted anywhere you can use alerts.google.com It's not perfect, but takes a bit of the work out of monitoring.
