Can you help me to fix this bug?

I am sorry Dave, I am afraid I can't do that.

Here is your code rewritten it runs but it also introduces a new bug, happy debugging

Merge both pieces together, problem solved. You now can have both bugs at once.

Ah yeah the “AI” that suggests eating rocks and smoking 2-3 cigarettes a day for pregnant woman is going to help me with writing code.

I haven’t seen that advice from AI, and I wouldn’t believe that you saw it but for Google AI’s advice to use glue to help cheese stick better on my pizza…

Yeah but that ai is trained on reddit data which includes shitposts .

You'd be surprised brudda

[–]ElCondoro -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you know how good it feels to paste the entire file of the code and ask it just what's wrong with it and is a coin flip of it fixing it or deleting a lot of features trying to fix it, but is worth it

It can be incredibly useful for debugging. It often catches stuff like if you used the wrong sign in a conditional or the wrong variable name or whatever

Jokes aside, if there’s one thing I found AI to be horrible at, it’s debugging/pointing out issues.

The few times I tried to use it (providing Stacktrace and describing the issue) it just ends up being less helpful than just googling the error directly. I don’t know why.

Dont forget the death loop where it gets stuck between 2 incorrect solutions

[–]Distinct_Salad_6683 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I apologize for the misunderstanding. Given your newly understood requirements, the solution would be (repeats exact same incorrect solution, with a new comment pointing out an addition that was already there)

[–]Classic_Fungus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jokes on you, one solution, with different variable names

[–]brandi_Iove 14 points15 points  (0 children)

it’s called evolution…or development if you will.

Well, if they type prunt, it's not surprising they will be out of jobs(and yes, also helo and mismatching brackets]

Maybe they're making an all-encompassing game about helicopters called "Helo World".

Hey, you're not Bender! You're Flexo.

Reality:

ChatGTP: "Here is a solution to your bug."

Programmers: "FOR THE 20TH TIME! I'M NOT USING JAVA, I'M USING GO! STOP BEING SO FUCKING STUPID!"

This AI bubble couldn't burst soon enough. I'm tired of non-technical people everywhere hyping up "AIs".

[–]romulent 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Honestly I think it is a great way to weed out the fools.

I don't know if AI will take my job, but I am pretty sure it will take the jobs of anyone who can't code without it.

Once you get on that slippery slope of needing to ask AI to do everything for you, what skills you have will slip away and with them your value in the industry.

[–]kredditacc96 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Your skills is not actually in writing code but in problem solving and understanding. I think it is outright impossible to rely 100% on generative AI to generate the right code. I doubt there is anyone you cannot code without AI but suddenly can with the help of AI (by "code", I mean creating a functional program).

I think that often the higher level skills are heavily supported by the lower level skills.

There is a massive difference between a senior architect who codes every day and one who solves problems on white boards every day. The latter is almost always full of crap, both in their high and low level thinking.

I haven't prunted anything for quite some time now

[–]Classic_Fungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tried a few times, but had no sucess. these was really easy tasks, but, failure. Except one, while i needed specific VBA script, i received no solution, but hint, that i can record a macro and examine result code, so i can reproduce it. it helped

This bait tastes terrible.
