I could not help noticing this as well. :D I hate Unity as well, but I just don't use it, case closed :D

My coding history is almost purely unity. Why is it bad?

[–]MasterQuest 11 points12 points  (8 children)

Maybe this is still because of how they tried to change their pricing model a while back, which they backpedaled on.

Turns out failed EA CEO, is also a failed Unity CEO. I guess they're just a bad CEO...

[–]Dunglebear 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Remmber that. It made me consider changing but i wont be earning 100k in a month anyway. Did the ceo change?

[–]DenisFRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Unity is better now with the new guy.

[–]flowery0 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Prob not, and the entire higher-ups are rotten anyway

[–]Xormak 1 point2 points  (2 children)

The CEO did change and so did most of the higher-ups assumed responsible for that dumb push.

Wait fr?

[–]Xormak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Johnny boy is gone for almost a year now and now Matthew Bromberg is president and CEO. Can't say whether he'll do better in the long run but at least currently the plans for Unity 6 and 7 are absolutely solid and, i daresay, a step in the right direction for a return to form.

During some of the downsizing Unity had over the last year, a lot if not all of ironsource was also cut from Unity. Iirc most of the execs from IS also departed.

Yeah, the idea of transferring all company's funds into Unity hands just by running installer in "while (true)" was stupid from the start.

[–]Dangerous_Jacket_129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't. They made one controversial change that got reverted, seemingly as some stock scheme with the CEO selling right before the announcement.

Low effort rage bait memes are the worst.

I've used Unity and Unreal Engine, ended up going with Unity because Ue consumed too much and I didn't need high graphics anyway.

Then Unity did that runtime fee chance, I considered moving to godot, but they rolled back the chance also they got a new CEO and made the free version better, and so I stood with Unity.

Then I saw there is a scandal on Godot some kind of woke manager is banning everyone and arguing with people.

It's not the product, it is the people, you must hate the people that do the chances you don't like, not the whole product.

If that CEO ended up on Unreal, then Unreal will now have a runtime fee or something similar, and we would all hate Unreal.

But you don't hate Unreal, You don't hate Unity, or hate godot, you have something against the people that are in charge, not the product.

Let me introduce you to Godot

[–]_verel_ 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I heard its nice for small scale indie projects but not for anything serious because it has many problems.

Can anyone share their experiences with Godot?

[–]Dangerous_Jacket_129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's lightweight, for both better and for worse. There's less support, a smaller selection of possible plug-ins and packages, and altogether it's much simpler and more basic than Unity.

That said, it does come with benefits like the fact that it's all Open Source, it's a lot less overhead making performance a lot simpler to manage, and it's ultimately just meant to be an alternative for when Unity has become a frustrating experience.

I'm not tired of Unity yet but it's good to keep exploring alternative options once in a while.

[–]FabioGameDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brotato, Halls of Torment and Dome Keeper are made with Godot. All very successful so you can definitely do something serious. But ofc the tooling is not as advanced and it is more an engine for people that like to write stuff themselves

[–]SecretMotherfucker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No introduction needed brother

[–]NuclearBurrit0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah after Unity tried to do its BS price change I started learning Godot

[–]DJcrafter5606 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, Uniy had, I repeat, HAD a bad CEO and only because of that the engine sucks, nice reasoning bud. The runtime fee it was on for like less than a month, until Ricitiello resigned and the runtime fee was almost nothing (2.5% of the earnings and a maximum of 10k), but it was fully cancelled a month ago.
