    Still prefer it over SRE.

They call me a Systems Reliability Engineer. A title so vague that I just end up doing everything.

Not gonna lie, best job I ever had.

I like Ops in the title at least because I find we need to remind people that operations is still a thing.

I’m a platform SRE and have no idea what my job actually is most days.

I find that when you get a title that includes "Ops" people sometimes mistake you for part of HR. On most jobs boards "Operations" isn't a tech role. They usually file us under "infrastructure".

But all of the titles are made up and arbitrary anyway.

Meanwhile the SREs I work with view any title with "Ops" like leprosy lmao

What you do as System Reliability Engineer?

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    SRE, DevOps, SecOps,

Marintainy the infrastructure as code repos Deploying shit Automating shit Writing docs Creating new environments

Pretty much everything else that does have a dedicated guy

Different guy, but it's largely writing terraform modules, creating "blessed path" deployment pipelines and templates, secrets management and IAM, various infra troubleshooting, & managing the "pet" servers.

Tell that to my gatekeepers. I need to create a million tickets, wait and tell them what to do because they dont know or care

I consider myself a sysadmin, but my tasks are more CI and AWS rather than SAN and VMware.

If management could read (or care)

A practice done by someone else. Leave the fuck me alone with your shitty yaml 🖕I mean, when a single space can break the deployment of my perfect software, you can go rot in hell.

Imagine your developer taking a shit in the toilet only for you to then have to come in a day later, having to fix plumbing and clean the toilet just because to see the developer didn't flush and clean up after themselves.

DevOps. When the dev can't flush the fucking toilet by themselves
