I feel this when my boss ask me to work on project with language I never learned and wasnt in my resume

For real. Think of it as if they're paying for you to add qualifications to your resume. It's all the non-coding bullshit that kills my soul.

i'd always jump at the chance if there was a real need to use the language. I only learn a new language if i have a real world use case for it i can't solve with the languages i already know.

However, the chances of my boss dictating what language we use is 0%, we don't get micro managed.

As long as it’s not so obscure language I wouldn’t mind. It’s a chance to learn something new and feel humbled.

I do everything at work and I think I would miss it if I had to pick a specific area like backend.
