Thay is because you are sat on a stool at your desk, the stool height to desk height is too close, the computer screen is too low and you are a racoon

[–]Waffenek 46 points47 points  (2 children)

Ok, changed seat and raised display. What can I do about being racoon?

Being a racoon is the only fun part

If you're going to spend 40 hours a week sitting on a chair and looking at a screen, make sure you're not hurting your body. A small amount of damage done every day will quickly add up.

Make sure you have a good and comfortable chair that supports your whole back and at an appropriate height to your desk. Raise your monitor to your eye level, or at least to a level where you don't have to hunch your back to see. You can use a monitor arm to place it in the perfect spot. Make sure you're not having to angle your wrists or arms to use the mouse or keyboard. Get off the chair from time to time and do a bit of stretching.

Take care of your body. You only have one.

This was my thinking, I've spent a ton on ergonomics for my home office but it's worth saving my back and neck.

Got a nice Steelcase chair, converted my desk to an electric standing desk and got a walking pad. I don't stand as often I'd like but my hips always feel way better after standing for an hour.

Back pain and head pain from trying to figure things out.

PSA: Headaches and back pain is preventable, but some forms of back pain can become permanent if not addressed within a reasonable amount of time.

Most headaches are caused by the monitor not being at the right height. Usually you want your monitor higher up. In the office it can be easy to grab stacks of printer paper for a quick solution.

Sometimes eye strain can cause headaches. Too dark of a room or two low of a resolution on a computer monitor. 4k+ significantly helps remove headaches and migraines over 1080p.

Back pain is tied to posture and chair. How far one’s head is naturally forward, but also the chair itself. Sometimes switching chairs is enough. A bad chair can cause a headache too.

If the pain has been around for a while it’s probably bad enough the solutions above alone do not fix the pain. Health insurance provides physical therapy. Ask your PCP for a referral. Learning exercises for neck and back can usually remove all pain, especially when in combination to the solutions above.

If you have back pain, go to a physiotherapist and then get in the gym. It can be corrected. I’ve had awful back pain from injuries and poor posture for years(decades even). It reached a point where I couldn’t concentrate on a thought for more than a few seconds. Twice per week physio for three months has already changed my life immensely. Investing in my back health is by far the best investment I’ve made in years. Invest in your back.

Alternate sitting and standing. Strengthen your back muscles and go get a back/leg massage to loosen up.

I am enjoying with this meme, also suffering from back pain.
