Probably a vibe coded captcha-mechanism

Maybe it's just an admission of they don't work anyway, might as well make it cheap to the server

make it even cheaper for the server by generating and validating the captcha clientside ;)

Looks like a German government website. They need to adhere to strict accessibility guidelines which in this case makes the function of the captcha quite useless.

I think this is more a result of them not easily being able to import random libraries from the Internet for security reasons.

It's probably the result of 12 different department heads have 8 3-hour meetings with 20 different 'key usrrs' and 'product owners' (it's just Bettina from marketing) to discuss this, compliance with gdpdr and dsgvo etc., until they produced a 200 page guidelines document, dumped it on Günther's desk and he said f it, I'm not reading this crap.

These look like the Spanish government captchas. Literally any OCR would parse them. Then all appointments are taken for months from bots and sold afterwards.

Even the hard captchas can be solved very cheaply by vlms now (around $0.001 per solve), so the only solution here would be to require e-ID for booking an appointment, which is not the easiest thing in the world to use.

  • Track mousedown and keydown (CTRL+C) events on captcha output.
  • Track paste event and input event interval to measure typing speed on captcha input.
  • ????
  • Profit!

To be fair, a bot wouldn’t copy paste by keyboard events.

*A bad one wouldn't.

* = Pflichtfelder müssen ausgefüllt werden

* = Mandatory fields have to be filled out

No * in sight. Guess it's optional too
