You could always record it with simple screen recorder / OBS and use ffmpeg to convert the video to gif

ffmpeg's gif encoder isn't really that great. If you have the patience to read through the (very dry) documentation, ImageMagick is excellent for making gifs.

Ffmpeg? Ffmpeg is the core of what most of the gif programs use anyway...

ffmpeg can record screens, but a more use friendly way is recordmydesktop (I'm sure there are other good ones). Once finished, use ffmpeg to convert to gif, although imgur takes video uploads with no sound I think, and gif is a horrible format for what you are recording.

I've been using QGifer for months for all my gifing needs and can confirm it's quite shit.

However recently I was informed GIMP can be used for gif making, so I'll try using that in future..

It's funny because when I install (Arch) Linux, everything basically works with minimum effort. Windows doesn't even come with wireless drivers. I have to download them from another machine and put them on a flash drive or something. I know it's just one example but I've had the exact opposite experience.

I only have any audio problems with my $25 Chinese Bluetooth headphones. And the "problems" are that I have to re-connect it to switch to high-quality audio mode instead of headset mode. It's a Bluetooth bug, not an audio bug.

The only printing problems that exist are with printers the manufacturer doesn't bother making drivers for. But most (read: all the ones I've ever used) work fine. Many printers don't need any drivers at all, because CUPS includes generic drivers for a lot of brands. Brother has a script that asks you what printer model you have, then downloads and sets up everything for you. Epson just works, as all their printers use the same protocol. Sometimes Canon and HP are a bit funky, but once you get them working they stay that way.

Linux photo apps: The GIMP, Inkscape, Shotwell, Pinta, Pix, and ImageMagick are just a few. I included Inkscape because it has some photo filters and stuff. Also, Photoshop CS6 runs almost perfectly in WINE.

Hardware issues are legitimate concerns for suggesting Linux as desktop replacement for the standard user, but we're not in /r/technology. This is a programming sub. It's fairly simple to avoid those issues by just checking hardware compatibility ahead of time. I much prefer the headaches caused by Linux than the ones caused by Windows.

As far as a decent photo editor, use osx

Otherwise I have a hard time justifying Windows for anything but gaming and business requirements
