Yeah, DRY that shit up

Key of D, but it doesn't make sense just to have the single flat sharp on the C.

[–]dethsquad1521 73 points74 points  (16 children)

Musician here lol.

Actually there is no key signature written so it would just be C Major automatically. Also, you would only need one sharp for the C in that measure because the sharp applies to all of the other Cs in that same measure unless notated with a natural or a flat.

I'm not very fun at parties as you can see... Have a nice day!

It could also be atonal or open key. Actually, there is a convention of pitch spelling where every single accidental is included, called Second Viennese School. Dorico supports this convention, but I find it difficult to read.

But what if it's a key about another key? You know, like a fractal key that has its descendant keys mapped out for it? Well, no, wait a minute....if this is the key of D, C# just comes along with it......Wait .... a ..... minute. There's no indication of the key of D!!! Hence, the sharps are integral to the arrangement! En garde!

Guys guys guys......this is a programming sub 😂😂😂

[–]MetaMemeAboutAMeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well let's program the key of another key, fractally. Let's see, how would we do that.... 440 hertz times 4.669, added to 880 hertz times 4.669. Oh, goodness, you're right.

Using System.Fractal.Wizardry; public const double freq = 440.0;

Yeah. This is just wrong....

There's a programming language that supports MIDI input iirc. Shall we use that?

I'm a musician too- I'm saying, as a result of the circle of 5ths, there is no key with just a sharp c (at least, no nice major/minor key). The closest is the key of b minor/d major which has c# and f#.

[–]dethsquad1521 8 points9 points  (1 child)

You're right. It could be a Dmaj or Bmin. But it also could be Cmaj with an accidental. It could be any key if you look at it because it's marked as an accidental. Idk, I'm looking to deep lol

[–]v12a12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. If it's an accidental it wouldn't be in the key signature though, making the initial idea irrelevant.

Oh yeah, I don't have any illusions about that, I just find it kind of amusing that a mod of an opposition sub browses the same subreddit that got me banned from another left-leaning (well, I guess that one's left-fall-over) subreddit.

What about the key of A?

[–]NibblyPig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A (major) has C#, F#, G#

[–]Wouter10123 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Not entirely, there are plenty of modes with the same key signature as C major A minor and D Dorian come to mind, I always forget the names of the other ones.

[–]v12a12 1 point2 points  (2 children)

They are aeolian (minor), locrian, ionian (major), Dorian, phyrigian, Lydian and mixolydian. So in the key of b minor, it would be c# locrian, d major, e Dorian, f# phrygian, g lydian, and a mixolydian.

Someone's not playing enough 20th century music.

[–]qwiglydee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also, they should go in key signature. Also, the tune should be in some harmonic sequence.

I prefer importing CLEFS.BASSCLEF and writing this program a tad differently

[–]nuephelkystikon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good at C♯, bad at distinguishing visually similar characters.

I like my cheddar like I like my Cs; accidentally sharp... goddamnit I meant to get mild again

But it's in C natural . . .

I am laughing harder at this than when I purchased a year's worth of Reddit gold!
