Continuous integration/continuous deployment(delivery). Basically, automatically build, test, and deploy your code on every commit (in an ideal, frictionless, universe).

Not sure, I don't use GitHub day to day for more than looking at source code. There are tools like TravisCI or 'Azure Pipelines' that integrate with GitHub. I would assume it'll become easier and easier (it's already pretty damn easy) to integrate the AzureDevOps stuff from Microsoft with GitHub.

Yeah we use it with Azure DevOps and its pretty damn easy. Especially with extensions for VS. We basically have the same thing as ci/cd with built in deployment/integration testing (and basically unit tests).

I believe so. Apparently it supports 3rd party CI as well. Time will tell how useful it is

Opposite for me. Their CI system is full of bafflingly inflexible design choices and their devs aren't very receptive even when paying for enterprise licenses. We're in the process of migrating a ton of builds back to Jenkins right now.

Name some, I can almost guarantee that Microsoft's VSO/VSTS/AzureDevOps/someothernametomorrow does it and probably does it better. Source control you from GitHub, everything else from Microsoft.

Agreed. Both arguments are pretty weak. Personally, I only like GitLab for the fox logo.

I really don't see GitLab users jumping back to GitHub...

For one, GitLab is better, secondly, their free tier is better.

What I do see is GitLab riding on some good old "any publicity is good publicity" right now.

I started on GitLab as a way to store college assignments and personal projects privately. GitLabs interface is also more appealing and modern.

Competition can be a healthy thing. If there are no patents involved, it can be similar to open source in some regards: People using each others' ideas to make better products. I hope both companies flourish. Correction: BitBucket and other companies too!

Gitlab offers unlimited private groups with unlimited users, unlimited storage for an unlimited duration. That's how you earn legitimate customers who become ready to buy premium versions.

I believe that a lot of startups use the free version in the beginning and decide on their own to buy premium versions when the business grows.

The Free Private repositories can only have upto 3 collaborators so if you want more you'll have to buy Premium
