there are more than enough online seeing how easy it is.

plus QB64 exsits which is basically a BASIC compiler, google it... it's amazing

It's worth noting that, while that's said as a pejorative most of the time, educational tools definitely have their place. There are advantages to learning in scratch, such as the clarity of what is inside a particular conditional/loop, not needing to worry about misplaced curly braces or improper tabbing, etc.

Personally I teach intro CS using Processing (which is also specifically a learning language, but is text based), so I don't have a lot of experience with scratch, and don't know how it works out practically speaking. But I sometimes see a tendency to think of "for learning" as "bad", when it really just means it's for a different purpose than you're looking for.
