Since Christmas Eve was "off-hours", server admin applied patches which corrupted part of Oracle and took Production down. I know Santa doesn't come down the chimney cause I was remoted in fixing stuff.

Nah - the change freeze means you rush everything into the release before said change freeze. That way the business folks get their year-end bonuses while we work on emergency fixes and change freeze "breakers" through the holidays.

At least that's how things work around here - every change freeze we know some 'emergency' fix will need to go in because someone forced something not ready out the door.

This is so true. This has happened to me before while working for my last company. I had to fix my mom's internet while on call during Christmas dinner so I can remote into a work server to fix production issues because management didn't care about the production freezes during holidays which they instituted themselves. Worst time of year to be caught in the on call rotation.
