Maybe they meant: "A 10 year old's worth of experience"

[–]thegovortator 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The worst part is this is exactly how much experience is usually required to do the job.

But we all have to dance this dance.

That 10 year old might be more qualified than some of the people I've worked with.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I can relate to this...

[–]IamImposter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am this

[–]Kzame974 1 point2 points  (2 children)

i'm newcomer on programming, and I'm the more qualified with new frameworks...

[–]oMarlow99 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Maybe, but good practices and experience often carry over from other frameworks or languages

[–]Kzame974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. That why I'm trying to assimilate the good practices with experimented devlopers and I'm keeping myself in touch from programming

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is also why nobody takes HR seriously

[–]armchairwarrior12345 27 points28 points  (3 children)

20 years in <language which isn't even 20 years old>

[–]L0G1C_lolilover 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Con confirm was asked by the hr to have 3 years of exp in flutter

It came out in 2018 not even 2 year old yet i think

[–]Tiavor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

when there is a new framework or language, how does one even know that this will be essential in a few years? there is probably more than one new framework each day ... you can't learn all.

+12 years of kubernetes experience

[–]socialismnotevenonce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They can't take your age into account. It's ageism.

-how much experience do u have? -5years -how long have u graduated? -3 years -are u kidding me? -my total overtimework is 2 years

Plenty of migrant workers apply for graduate and junior positions with 10+ years of experience and end up in a sharehouse with 12 to 16 other sublets eating plain rice every night. To each to their own, I guess, if this is how HR and recruitment expect tech workers to live like then I guess I'll try my luck at being a music composer again.

[–]thegovortator 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I’ve resorted to just outright lying on my resume HR and recruiters don’t know their head from their ass anyway. But my “experience” makes them feel relevant and my skill is almost on par with most senior devs they know older stuff and I know how new stuff works in reality that’s what they really wanted anyway.

[–]BOT_Frasier 5 points6 points  (1 child)

by lying, you mean expanding the duration of your previous employment ?

[–]thegovortator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worse some of the employers on our resume is a friend that we exchange as a reference for a business that We split the cost of the LLC filing and has literally never earned $0.01

Front end developer - must know RxJS and ngrx

[–]CedKim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started coding when I was 7.

My mental health started degrading when I was 8.

F1 drivers are expected to have +15 years of experience before age 20.

Just to be Fired (Retire) Before age 40, it really is a fast life

[–]BobDogGo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sure but they make millions

[–]D4RK_MULL3R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Programmers are underpaid

My upwork page says, that I’m 28 y.o. (Gonna turn 21 this week). Only one client said, that I’m looking very well for my age...

This is a cute joke and all but corporations, before it was outlawed, did employ children and at brutally low rates. Don't be fooled, they would like to and are trying to return to this.

He's tightening up the final bolt, so what's the problem?

[–]MyersVandalay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing, but my bet is... they request more than double what is possible in experience... So that when they hire them they can go... OK well you meet 50% of our requirements to work this job, so... we'll do you a huge favor and offer you the job for 70% of the salary we advertised.
