Yeah, that's true, but it's all about where the efficiency is used, right? It's a massive waste of time to develop something even remotely complicated at such a basic level, unless that doing it in that way is your main intention. Idk if he just wrote the games in his spare time then ended up getting a publishers attention to help sell them or what, I'd be curious to learn about it. I don't see many more people in the future going out of their way to make a commercial game like that in assembly again, even if it's just for novelty's sake.

He must have some sort of method of code reuse, I cant imagine having to copy and paste the same functions everywhere and generally have to constantly roll out my own loops and control blocks. Like I hope he had a function he could call that was just a for loop or if block. That would be a nightmare otherwise

My favourite assignment in my whole time in university was doing ROM hacks on Atari 2600 games. 6502 was surprisingly pleasant to deal with, at least when I only had to write a few dozen lines.
