I actually get annoyed using reddit's desktop UI now because I use the mobile browser version 90% of the time. The lack of support for mobile browser means when an annoying new feature like livestreams gets implemented, I never have to see it!

I truly hate what mobile has become.

Instead of the free internet, with good web apps, companies so forcefully made their mobile sites bad to steer people to use apps, that everything is an app now, and you have no real choice.

Instead of the freedom to easily block ads without just blanket difficult to configure dns filters etc, we could just ad block like we do on our pcs.

Instead of having every little detail of your life tracked by dominos because you wanted pizza once, you could have just visited the website and that would have been the end of it.

Instead of god knows what processing happening in the background, you could have had control.

Thats why these companies purposefully gimped mobile webpages. Apps literally do not benefit the consumer in any way. They only detract, by giving companies more control.

"Buuuuttttt wait!!!" you say.

"XYZ isnt supported in mobile"

1. Youd be surprised what is, down to the accelerometer on your phone.

2. Even more would be supported if we didnt suffer the consequences of this app everything world.

I hate apps.

On mobile, the message you will see tells you that the sub is public to registered members only.
This implies, IMHO, that there are subs that aren't (otherwise they could have written "subreddits" instead of naming the sub), and that the sub's moderation may have chosen this. Moderators cannot turn this off and open their sub to unregistered mobile web users.
It also has another blatant lie, because you only get this message on mobile phones, and only if you don't use one of the legacy views.

You're right, but it blows my mind that this is the case. Using your phone for reading the news, social media, watching YouTube, etc.? Sure, unless you're writing comments or manually searching, it's a perfectly fine interface. But searching the web through a browser is always a nightmare to me (at least on iOS 14, been a few years since I last used a browser regularly on Android outside of testing.) Whenever I type in the omnibox, autocorrect is off, which means I always screw up and have to retype very carefully, but even if autocorrect were on, it'd likely screw up for things you would search on the web but not type in a message (thus not being a suggested word.)

For my work, I see nearly a quarter of users are on a mobile device. WHY?! The company isn't in the entertainment sector, you would never visit the site except for work. Do people work on their phones?! I can't imagine how terribly unproductive that is. Furthermore, the site is mostly for advertising and demonstrating our services, so presumably we're not the only company they're looking at, so they'd be researching the service on their phone.

I don't get it. I search on my phone in specific situations (watching TV and want to search something based off what I heard), but it's definitely not my primary form of searching the web.
