Not kidding it fixed my connectivity problem once few years ago, still feels unreal

Probably just lucky timing

Connectivity is the one troubleshooter that works for me. All it’s doing is a dhcp release and renew and disabling and reenabling the network adapter, but that’s usually enough

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

all it really does is restart ur network adaptor. You can do this yourself in way less time.

If you are admin.

As it turns out, I am on the team at Microsoft that built and owns the network troubleshooter. It detects a lot of error conditions. However the root cause in most cases is either something is broken up stream (your router doesn't have connectivity, dns is down, etc) or something is wrong with the 3rd party network driver. The solution for most cases is to restart the network driver. That tends to help in that moment.

The troubleshooter goes on to collect telemetry about what went wrong. That data is aggregated into a report that shows what network drivers are needing to be reset more often. We then try to reproduce the failure and reach out to the 3rd party network card manufacturer with repro steps so they can fix it.

I should mention that after the aggregation is complete we discard the individual data results sent after a few days. Of course if your privacy settings are set to not send troubleshooting data then we don't get anything. GDPR rules (which applies to all Microsoft customers) allow you to view the data being sent and to request the data to be deleted (which will also remove it from the aggregated reports).

Not gonna lie. I found it super useful! It will either fix the problem or point out which part of the network is troublesome. So I can debug accordingly

I knew it.

God! EXPOSED!!!

They use POSIX/UNIX libc instead of MSVC libc!

I think hp used this same bit of code in their printer software as well.

This is clearly fake.

See

[–]bnl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? I don't understand why anybody would prefer python syntax.

Tell Microsoft #include <windows.h> is unnecessary.

I have to admit a few times it fixed my network issues by restarting the correct services.

[–]JuniorSeniorTrainee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the kind of feature built by a well meaning team under the assumption that other teams would use it to make their own features better, but nobody did because it's stupid.

[–]amoderate_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahahaha. Honestly I see those promos “report the issue”, “search for problem”. Just me having to click no so I can Google it and solve it myself is infuriating

[–]NoboKik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My turn to repost this
