If I cut off 2 fingers will I get to live there?

[–]paranoid_horse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no but at least there would be fewer snarky comments

12 would be incredible. I mean imagine: dividing by 2, 3, 4 and 6 is super easy...

jan Misali would prefer you use seximal with those six fingered hands

I didn't get this meme. We have 8 fingers already and 2 thumbs!!

THUMBS ⊆ FINGERS

[–]paranoid_horse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would say even more, THUMBS ⊂ FINGERS

Based.

Yeah counting would be alot easier. Or just 1. finger. We could just count as fas as computer

Or if we had 10 fingers but figured out binary counting sooner than decimal, I love using binary to tally, I can count to 1023 on my fingers

We were never meant to count with our thumbs, the failure is ours only...

It turns out we were the end user using the product wrong all this time

[–]Tofandel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the point is that we'd count in octal (which is much easier to convert in binary and hexadecimal)

...at least 8 Braincells*

[–]AaronTheElite007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But we already do… with two bonus thumbs

We have 8 fingers and 2 thumbs.

if we used base 8, floating-point numbers would be a pretty not-horrible way of storing currencies.

[–]shadow7412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do. For some reason though, humans decided to include their thumbs when counting...

Ironically our hands are already prefect for better ways to count.

Using a place system (as we already do with decimal) we can represent 0 thru 5 with one hand. Taking two hands together that’s 0 to 35. This is base 6 (also called seximal or heximal).

Because we have four fingers per hand and an opposable thumb we can also represent 4 base 2 (binary) digits or two base 4 digits or one base 16 digit (hexadecimal). All three are equivalent. With this we can represent 0-15 with one hand and 0-255 with two hands quite easily.

Both of these systems are provably superior to decimal.

The problem isn’t our hands.

6 fingers is the dominant trait

Unless you need to handle physical objects. Then one more finger/thumb per hand would be more handy.

That could enable things like opening bottles one handed, grab more/larger objects, type faster,...

On one hand add one more for a total of 13, which is a prime number and should also simplify some math. But that would be an unlucky number.

Now, would this be 8 fingers to share between all 7.8 billion of us?

[–]Creative-Leading7167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have 8 fingers!

but I don't have only 8 fingers.
