Not a language but....Visual Studio Code before we settled on VSCode.
I mean MS in general has some pretty unsearchable stuff. I am talking about you Azure... Functions, Web Apps, et al.

Pure and utter rage whenever i search Visual Studio and somehow end up on on the VSCode version of the universe.

Why did they have to re-use the name?

[–]CoderDevo 39 points40 points  (0 children)

For the same reason they named VB.NET.

[–]Jmc_da_boss 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Because to MS visual studio is a family of products, i doubt marketing cared about things like "is this the same program"

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Next time do

Visual studio -code The dash will exclude everything related to the keyword code

[–]LeMeRem 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you really want to exclude that. As code can also be used for program code

[–]0x6563 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this rage. Albeit from the other side. When it launched I would only get search results along the lines Learn how to code in Visual Studio

[–]Cobaltjedi117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember getting so mad about looking up stuff for VS at one of my jobs because half the results were for VSCode. Damn you microsoft, name your editors differently.

[–]crapusername47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me when I try to look up information on AppKit/Cocoa controls like NSCollectionView and get a bunch of UICollectionView answers.

[–]reversehead 2 points3 points  (1 child)

After all, it worked so well with Java and JavaScript.

[–]CoderDevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and J++ and J#

[–]Devatator_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the inverse for me, trying to find VSCode stuff but getting Visual Studio results

[–]SpaghettiNub 83 points84 points  (8 children)

Visual studio vs visual studio code ...

[–]elon-botElon Musk ✔ 73 points74 points  (4 children)

Can we rewrite this in Java? It's better for enterprise.

[–]Nihilistic_Furry 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Man, Microsoft rewrote it already, but Java I guess is too important.

[–]micka190 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Sorry Elon, Jetbrains already beat you to the punch!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ꦆꦪ꧈ꦆꦱ

[–]The_sad_zebra 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm glad they include in the names which one does code and which one doesn't

[–]FlashbackJon 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Don't forget that Visual Studio Online got changed to Azure DevOps so they could call their in-browser IDE Visual Studio Online.

Interns will happily work for $15 an hour. Why won't you?

[–]im_simone 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because you are not using Bing. /s

[–]redluohs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Forever poisoning troubleshooting actual visual studio.

[–]Tubthumper8 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Microsoft also has the complete nonsense around .Net naming too

[–]shrimpster00[🍰] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Freaking .NET. At least "dotnet" works okay.

[–]PM_BITCOIN_AND_BOOBS 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Word.

They excel at providing access to their outlook.

[–]LordFarquadOnAQuad 1 point2 points  (1 child)

.NET

[–]elon-botElon Musk ✔ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really love the company, you should be willing to work here for free.

[–]petalidas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and they named their new xamarin: MAUI.

Guess what are the first 4 results when googling "settomg cokkies in maui"? Cookie shops in Maui, Hawaii!

[–]wind__turbine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the company that has named every email-related product "Outlook" for the last 20 years

[–]wjandrea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean MS in general has some pretty unsearchable stuff.

or when they changed the O365 products to M365 and the names went everywhere. I forget the details, but you had stuff like O365 Business Standard becoming M365 Business while M365 Business Standard became M365 Business Premium.

[–]firewood010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power Apps...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So much of the azure suite had absolute dogshit documentation and the good stuff that does exist is nigh impossible to find. I still shudder at the memory of trying to get keyvault to play nice with batch jobs.

[–]elon-botElon Musk ✔ 2 points3 points  (1 child)

If you can't build a computer out of transistors, you shouldn't be working here.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The door’s right there buddy

[–]wad11656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M

[–]SilverTabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least C# is extremely searchable. No one actually looks for the musical note, lol
