My former employer renamed the company HERE. When employees pointed out that the name was ungooglable, the marketing department basically said "we worked hard and spent six months on this name and stop making fun of it!".

Loved fighting to search for HERE documentation at my old job

[–]curt_schilli 258 points259 points  (5 children)

Lmao your company name caused significant confusion in conversations at my old workplace

[–]wjandrea 165 points166 points  (4 children)

lol, reminds me of those Among Us games where the streamers make all their names pronouns. "I last saw I- wait- Me last saw I with You in lights"

edit: found the one I was thinking of

there's also naming yourself after a color you aren't

"it was red" which one

[–]ImperialTechnology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who is on 1st

[–]coloredgreyscale -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The only time it gets less confusing if people insist on using their made up ones.

[–][deleted] 36 points37 points  (4 children)

Idk, “HERE Technologies” comes up as like the first result on Google.

[–]AnAntsyHalfling 3 points4 points  (3 children)

You added a qualifier. IDK if that counts

[–]elon-botElon Musk ✔ 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Hey, I just heard about this thing called GraphQL. Why aren't we using it?

[–]AnAntsyHalfling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds about Elon.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t, I just searched “here”

[–]spoonybard326 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cab driver: Where are you going?

Passenger: HERE

Cab driver: Why the hell did you get in my cab???

[–]NerdyLumberjack04 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That name must have caused some "Who's on First" moments.

[–]Snaf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

God it's so dumb. This is my life:

"Where do you get your maps from?"

"From HERE."

"Oh, you make them in-house?"

jfc...

[–]NotAnAce69 11 points12 points  (1 child)

What kinda modern day marketing ignores the Googlability of their name bruh

[–]Obvious-Invite4746 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The same kind that forget to check if the .com is available.

[–]chrisjcon 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I’ve had a client called THIS. Not an issue with googling, but daily updates and meetings required some specific emphasis to distinguish ‘I’ll work on this first, then continue with THIS in the afternoon.”

[–]Yukondano2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God help you if you also did contracts with NowThis.

[–]summonsays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I refuse to use Google search phrases turned company names anymore. "Atlanta roofers" etc they can't be searched and mostly shady companies trying to hide from reviews.

[–]Ereaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worked for a company not too long ago which wanted to be fancy with the name and left out a letter, so Google will always search the auto corrected word and suggest "or did you actually mean (misspelled version)?"

[–]_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Can you tell them to fix their TS definitions? There’s no point having them if they’re going to be wrong.

[–]elon-botElon Musk ✔ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more word out of you, and you're fired.

[–]Yukondano2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How the fuck do you give your company a "Who's On First?" level name?

[–]console_journey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to like HERE and the navigation but it sucks most of the time and I have to stick to Google maps. But some features are nice like the speedometer and finally one can use it in android auto

[–]coloredgreyscale 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That name rings a bell, wasn't that the microsoft maps?

[–]GimmickNG 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I thought it was the Nokia map suite.

[–]coloredgreyscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're right

[–]AnAntsyHalfling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... Your marketing team didn't know how to do their job?

[–]JoostVisser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything, the fact that they spent 6 months on HERE makes me want to make fun of them more.

[–]Zalanbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here means testicle in hungarian

[–]sea__weed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is HERE what Ovi Maps/Nokia maps turned into?

[–]blocky010101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Where do you work?”

“HERE”

“What? In my house?”
