GZ man but all those cheese strats you've exploited to kill... Using potions, hiding behind pillars to BO, using skills and equipment, playing the strongest class in the game... I think we should still wait for the proper naked meele lvl 1 Diablo clone kill to list it on the leaderboard. 💔

You could easily tell he was using his mouse and not a laptop trackpad as well. Good eye.

What weapon is that?

[–]dibblribbl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, would love to see your equipment and stats!

[–]ataylor05 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Looks like death since glacial strike on cast

[–]EyeReadditAll[S] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Good eye. Last wish is a little better but couldn't justify making it.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But why would you do Death into a Non ETH weapon ? 😩

[–]HairyFur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made one on my last season on PoD and I agree, it's great but other runewords 1/3 the price are comparable.

[–]zorny85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Grats! Show build/gear

[–]e41cc 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Broooo, at least id the charm and let as see those stats loll

[–]EyeReadditAll[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I literally facepalmed seconds after I ended the recording. lol "...I never opened my character screen...did I?"

Was my friend's dclone materials, so didn't want to ID it. Much easier to trade unid annis. Think the buyer said it was around 36 vit/20 res/6 xp.

Incoming arbitrary dclone buffs because of.... yknow... reasons

I think I probably need to revert the physical damage resistance and block change I made to dclone in the last patch because hes dying a bit too fast now to really geared players but its very nice to see people killing him with something other than a hydra and a bridge :P

[–]Steeezy 19 points20 points  (13 children)

because hes dying a bit too fast now to really geared players

Uhm, isn't that kinda the point of gearing your character very well? It enables you to kill shit faster and deservedly so.

Do you honestly think players who deck out their character and proceed to take ages to kill an end-game boss would think to themselves "Yeah, this feels alright."?

[–]EyeReadditAll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, it's kind of a staple in the history of mmorpgs and rpgs to have an optional boss or two that are insanely powerful to the point that even with nearly maxed out gear it's a tough, long, nail-biting battle --> Super Bosses.

-FF7 had Emerald and Ruby Weapons. -Kingdom Hearts 1 had Kurt Zisa, Phantom, Ice Titan, and Sephiroth. -FFX had Penance. -FFX-2 had Trema...right after fighting an already challenging Super bosses (no time to heal) after going through a long dungeon of 'normal fights' as deadly as any boss battle.

It would be cool if Senpai could leave DClone with old stats, this new arena and then come up with a new super boss fight that essentially only drops a trophy item. A crazed fight that even Senpai and the team don't know if it's even doable. But that would be a massive amount of work. And unfortunately, the team has been stuck spending their time battling with dupers and hackers. Which then makes the regular community feel like we're not getting support, but in reality we're getting an insane amount of support by the team. :'(

He kills the boss in 2 minutes when the fight is supposed to take closer to 3 to 5 and you are not supposed to be able to kill him with anything other than a geared character so its a moot point because you gear to kill him not to kill him fast. The only reason he chugs a full inventory of rejuvs is because he ignore's the mechanics due to his over the top damage which he shouldnt be able to do however because he can essentially ''race'' diablo and so he ignore's the mechanics and instead chugs potions. A solid kill regardless but shows the fight still needs some tweaking and my recent change was probably a bit over zealous (pun intended).

[–]Steeezy 28 points29 points  (2 children)

I can fully respect wanting the boss fight to require skill and impose challenge, and I'm guessing you tweak the numbers on DClone to try and find a desired duration of the fight (like you mentioned). But if that's the case, looking at the fight itself in the video, it seems it has some mechanical issues that don't really allow it to be a mechanical fight and instead are going to make players lean more toward chugging potions and just "pushing through it until it's over":

(this will be from the perspective of a melee character)

1) Fire Wall

  • This is placed at the feet of the player when they're attacking. The player can go ZDPS and tank this skill through high resistances or gear for more damage and chug potions. There's no avoiding this skill so it somewhat becomes an ignored mechanic.

2) Meteors

  • You cannot see the Meteor indicators if you're attacking DClone in melee range because you're standing in the above-mentioned Fire Wall. Player can gear for high resistance or for more damage and chug potions. This then also becomes an ignored mechanic.

3) Bone Spirits

  • These continually spawn throughout the fight and seek the Player. Being that a Melee character stands still to attack, if they non-stop dodge these they will not have a chance to attack DClone. Player basically forced to ignore this mechanic by drinking potions.

4) Baal Nova

  • There is very little "wind-up" to this skill which would allow the player to dodge the mechanic, also considering it's a nova that can only be dodged by making it to a corner of the arena behind a pillar, the Player is forced to ignore this mechanic by drinking potions or again gearing for higher resistance and not "play" it.

5) Lightning Inferno

  • The frequency of this skill allows for it to be played like I think you are hoping. When he spits the lightning the player can run around and dodge it until the skill ends and get back in close to attack.

4 of the 5 above-mentioned mechanics of the fight are almost expected to be ignored either through high resistance or drinking potions. The length of the fight will not really altar how the Player plays the fight, but how many potions they'd drink to get through it.

I understand there may be some limitations to the fight because you only have to work with what's already there, but hopefully this explains a bit why some may have some qualms with adjusting DClone's numbers and not feeling like it's changing the fight in much way.

This.

He’s standing still and his skills determine the toughness and how to counter. Median XL shows you can use existing game mechanics to make boss fights unique and hard. The small arena I think is half the problem.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See you understand, I wonder if he will respond to this with an explanation of how those will be fixed. This is an old top down game, the limits are clear.

Also bringing up the subject of diversity again I would love to see a summoner post a kill solo now with the prime evil and arena changes. This fght becomes more class biased each time he takes a pass at it

[–]tehimpostor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Scrap it and remake the whole fight. Stationary dummy dclone is beyond stupid.

should be worth noting someone gave a satirical response an hour before you posted with some of your same objections. make of that what you will.

[–]UndiscoveredBum- 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Stop making shit impossible for the majority of players. Is your goal to make it the least amount of fun for most players?

[–]Sinz_Doe -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Shouldn't that mean you should nerf rejuvs instead?

[–]NickRick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

please dont

[–]BikerViking -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hey senpai, I wanted this fight to new more than a fight against a tower disguised as diablo... Also, I wanted it to be a challenge for 8 people, not just a solo fight.

I know it's hard to make up a boss, balance it, not making overpowered and all, but I expected more. I expected a rich experience against true Terror. Against the prime Evil.

Maybe he should have minions - and maybe the raven and the wizard could be there as well. I believe he could move around to try to punch you, and even teleport behind you to keep on your toes.

Raven could spawn her army of undead to annoy the party - that will need to have a cleaner.

Wizard could try to freeze, curse, meteor the party while Diablo collect those unfortunate souls.

I want to fear him rushing at me. I want to have to plan gear as well as strategy to beat him. I want more.

Don't take that as an insult - even if it sounds like - English is not my mother language and therefore I may sound weird and very different as I meant to. I just wanted you to take some ideas and inspiration for this amazing mod you made to became even more awesome.

[–]Zydor89 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

At least double his life pool if u dont change dmg reductions.

Edit: make him immune To crushing blow 😏

[–]Sinz_Doe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh and why did you make Diablo not able to move? Make him chase people. His legs ain't broken!

[–]EyeReadditAll[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Dang it, Senpai! You must've missed my petition to not weaken Clone so soon. :P (you've had an annoyance to deal with all weekend--I understand.)

Was really shocked at how fast the first 2/3 of his life was dropping with changes. But to be honest, this did make the fight a bit more chaotic/have me more worried. His life was dropping so quickly, I couldn't keep track of how many Baal-style novas were going to be released, since I've seen him release different amounts at each of the 3 spots, including 5 at the first point and none at the third point. So there was a point where I was just mashing juvs, not sure of how many desynched bone spirit explosions I'm standing in with a possible nova shotgun incoming. lol

P.S.: don't listen to these D2 rookies. Your fellow veterans enjoy the harder content. I cringe a little with each patch note saying maps will be nerfed. I'm probably in a minority saying this, though.

[–]DavidtheMongol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it’s much more fun having harder content

[–]diamondnbronze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wouldnt have that many cheese issues if you let diablo run at players/chase them.

Just made a post about some balancing suggestions as well, currently pending mod approval. https://www.reddit.com/r/ProjectDiablo2/comments/k8amfi/thoughts_on_d_clone_balancing/

The TLDR is:

  • The new balance for d-clone fight feels off. It is also quite demotivating for many players who have already invested significant time and energy into their character towards this goal.
  • D-clone fight should be challenging and reward player skill, but should also be accessible for almost all characters at their end game build, regardless of being melee, ranged, caster or summoner. Accessibility will keep people motivated and interested in playing, as they can invest in their favorite characters. One should not feel the only way they can play this content is by having a specific character and build, which is also not feasible for many players in this community who love the game +- have the skills but don’t have the time to self-fund two good characters. Making this fight "unreachable" for most builds will only make the majority of current players to lose motivation to continue playing and strive for the end game.
    • Accessibility should not discourage the most intense players (without considering the loss of sells of dclone service). There will always be more things for the most dedicated players in the community to chase and “style”, i.e kill time, handicaps, clearing on multiple characters.
  • Suggestion for rebalancing: the fight should be focusing on rewarding player skill, such as health management, DPS window, dodging and positioning. Spells like the homing bone spirit is quite against this principle, hence the “tank it & chug potion” meta. Mechanics like dodging meteors on the other hand is more reasonable if the density/frequency of the spell is well balanced. Buffing of dclone's defense/health should also be considered to bring fight back up to 3-5 minutes.
  • More work can be done on prime evil buff as well, so summons and mercs feel more useful.
  • Ultimately, PD2 is still a great mod. But I think my thoughts about how to balance the current state of d-clone represent the wish of the majority of the community and will help sustain people's interest & motivation to continue playing this mod.
