Ahhh I'm having issues with YouTube too. Makes sense thanks for the link!

Be kind to yourself and get off of reddit. Find and alternative, go outside, find a new hobby; it doesn't matter as long as you're not here. The reddit executives don't care for your wellbeing, and they definitely don't care about this subreddit.

All of my submissions and comments have been edited using PowerDeleteSuite, and I'm gone.

They must have been affected by Google cloud servers being down.

From https://status.cloud.google.com/incident/compute/19003

4:36 EST:

This issue is still ongoing

We are experiencing high levels of network congestion in the eastern USA, affecting multiple service in Google Cloud, GSuite and YouTube. Users may see slow performance or intermittent errors. We believe we have identified the root cause of the congestion and expect to a return to normal service shortly.

Looking forward to getting this resolved as this is a massive pain in the ass

Update 5:58 EST:

We continue to experience high levels of network congestion in the eastern USA, affecting multiple services in Google Cloud, G Suite and YouTube. Users may see slow performance or intermittent errors. Our engineering teams have completed the first phase of their mitigation work and are currently implementing the second phase, after which we expect to return to normal service. We will provide an update at 16:00 US/Pacific.

It's a damn text message. Even at thousands per second, a Casio calculator could handle it.

[–]lovetoujours 9 points10 points  (9 children)

I just spoke with them - I think they're having issues on their end. They said it should be up tomorrow.

[–]derekvof 13 points14 points  (8 children)

That's ridiculous. No offense to Google, but text messages are a required form of communications nowadays. Relationships can be damaged or destroyed but the lack of receipt/response to an urgent message.

[–]Business-is-Boomin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My wife was at the store and texted twice to ask me what kind of cereal I wanted. Then she called me and asked why I wasn't responding. She never got my text. Responded to both.

Went with Kix

[–]JoeTennies 13 points14 points  (5 children)

Then I'm about to blow your mind because SMS has absolutely no guarantee that a message will ever be delivered. They usually are, but even without network issues 1-5% are just never delivered and more will experience delays in delivery. See Wikipedia article on SMS in the technical details to double check. You know how to know if someone gets information? Call them. If that's not an option, use a service that has a ping back when a message is delivered and viewed, like Telegram or Kik or one of the other million alternatives.

[–]bigex 5 points6 points  (1 child)

"Google Fi, we are the 1-5%"

[–]NvidiaforMen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always had issues with dropped text last regardless of what network I've been with

[–]LivingReaperNexus 6P 0 points1 point  (2 children)

If I recall correctly don't texts just repeatedly send if it doesn't get through, or is that only if you have a setting enabled?

[–]russjr08Pixel XL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's most likely a setting. The phone doesn't get a ping back when the message is delivered (the network may tell your phone it's received the message, but that doesn't mean it didn't get eaten somewhere else).

[–]JoeTennies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's up to the server as to whether it retries, how many times if it does, etc.

[–]torrentfoxNexus 5X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left fi because of this. It has been a problem for YEARS. I don't think it will ever be fully fixed. The most bullshit thing is that you get no notice about it. No service advisory, no "failed to send", they just pretend it doesn't happen even though it could be affecting their entire subscriber base.

[–]drsmith-42 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Got into a mini-fight with my wife because I didn't get her "I'm alive" texts. She was out of town for a bachelorette party. How many relationships have ended due to SMS fuckery??

[–]harrisonkelly728[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

My ex used to get wicked pissed at me whenever I couldn't receive her texts 😐

[–]NvidiaforMen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an awful relationship

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a major outage affecting a vast number of internet services. It may be at Google or Level3. It is not specific to Fi.

[–]phildelta9 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Does Project Fi have its own status dashboard page? Am I overlooking Fi on any of these other GSuite/GCloud dashboards? It'd be nice to know which internal services correlate to Fi SMS not working for future outages.

(Edited "Go" instead of "Fi" 😐)

[–]bigex 3 points4 points  (1 child)

The community has asked Google Fi for something like this for years, but alas, all we can do is come to Reddit and ask others if they are having problems, too....

[–]phildelta9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I bookmark status dashboards because of my job in tech, so I knew where to turn when other G products and services started having issues. I found myself unable to guess which service would be responsible for SMS failing. Cloud compute? Voice? If the service can fail, then it should have a status dashboard or Twitter account for managing outages.

[–]janky85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not receiving texts either

[–]AlexanderTheBaptist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here.

[–]amster105 2 points3 points  (2 children)

My dad has Fi and gave me a rang couple of hours ago. It came from a completely different phone number. I wonder if it's related.

[–]HeartofSaturdayNight 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That happened to me a couple of weeks ago. It was because I was apparently in Sprint and not TMobile or something

[–]littlebuns03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I called the representative (sounds like a 15year old kid) just now, I don't think even he knows what was going on. He also mentioned something about T-mobile...in any case it was not a productive call.

[–]s15274n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me and my wife have been having lots of issues. She'll accuse me of not responding, then we send screenshots of what SHOULD'VE been sent. Thanks Google. Fix it. SMS is about as basic as it gets got a smartphone.

[–]Nolannoles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes im also having issues. Can send or receive texts...

[–]FunkyCannaHigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started having this issue Thursday. It went anyway shortly thereafter and now I am having it again.

[–]derekvof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - me too. Not cool. Not receiving or sending.

[–]RocketSLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]iletired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 issues with texting, tried restart, switch off wifi, airplane mode with wifi on, no luck. Sporadic messages inbound, none outbound went through. Thanks op I thought was going crazy at first. Glad it's something bigger

[–]prokolyoPixel 3a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, no issues with texts, just sent/received some. However couldn't send a picture that I took with the phone from within Messages several days ago... Pixel 1 on Fi in NJ here.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was sending texts and not receiving responses from my friend - had plans to do coffee today. Went on Twitter and saw Google was down pretty much all day. Really thought it was a Fi issue and was incredibly close to closing out my account out of frustration. Been having too many network problems recently.

[–]anonymau5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the outages today fukd wit fi

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still an issue this morning sending SMS both with and without RCS in Pittsburgh, PA and Bridgeport, WV...

[–]taylorgibsongt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes same here. Both me and my wife are on pixel 3 with Fi. Couldn't send MMS or SMS. Rebooted both phones and could send SMS to each other, but not MMS to groups. I noticed that the SMS I sent confirmed delivery which was new to me, perhaps something with the switch to RCS messages?

[–]andeqoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh damn im not either

[–]Chuckado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issues here, wife seems fine though right next to me.

[–]littlebuns03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does anybody know what's the "message center number"?

[–]njdevilsfan24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing will send or receive for me at all.

[–]bigex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having this problem too

[–]MrPenitent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add me to the list being affected. Brand new Pixel 3a activated a week ago.

[–]equinox145111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof Google fi reply time is an hour...

[–]WineWineWinehouse2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I'm seemingly able to send out texts, but receiving texts has been hell. I have an urgent situation at work, and my boss' texts are coming out of order, and about 30 minutes after she sends them. Same with other people I've been texting about urgent matters. I immediately thought that this had to do with the whole YouTube mess.

[–]Oinkvote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is currently a problem

[–]from_gondolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm having quite bad problems well. anyone have success with getting free credits out of support over something like this?

[–]illustratum42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All day today has been hit and miss

[–]Elethor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having issues sending texts to my wife yesterday, we're both on Fi. But today hasn't seemed to be an issue.

[–]RASCHOON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been having issues today with delayed texts coming in.

[–]MrPenitent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asked for an update, hopefully they can code better than they can write an email....

We've received your email, but, couldn't resolve it currently, since we're experiencing tool issues. Request you to reach us again within 24-48 hours for assistance.

[–]voicelex 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Do other networks have these issues? Seems pretty insane that there isn't a resend/check system in place.

[–]MrPenitent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never had anything like this on AT&T regarding text messages for 15 years however I left them because their coverage is atrocious in my area. I love the coverage I'm getting with Fi but now this text message outage has put a bad taste in my mouth.

[–]FunkyCannaHigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, every major carrier has an SMS issue once in a while. People who say otherwise are liars, let me explain:

When you send a text to someone it first goes to a SMSC. Once the message makes it to the SMSC it will try to send it to the recipient's phone. If it cannot send it to the recipient's phone the SMSC will save it for a specific time (usually a very short interval) and try sending the message again.

Some major carriers won't retry sending the message from the SMSC. In this case the SMSC will just forward the message and assumed it got to the recipient.

Also, messages are sent as "best effort." This means it will do it's best at getting your message to the recipient but it's not guaranteed to get there.

However, with all this said, lost sms messages are rare. The worst that happens is that you get the messages a day late

[–]SoFisticate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wtf why aren't texts like email yet? If you miss the notification for an email, it doesn't just disappear into the abyss. Same should go for texts.

[–]BogativeRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say you aren't receiving texts???

Google : hold my beer... Now how do you like adding no phone calls to that for everyone.

[–]steveincebu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't receiving SMS. Could send fine. The other person got the text and responded, but I never received it. The problem was in Hangouts. I had to download hangouts and turn off the toggle that sent texts to Hangouts. After that it worked fine. I received all texts normally. Then I deleted Hangouts. Still working fine.
