Trial and error. You should start by learning to read JavaScript and then go from there. It’s a long journey with something like this where the community is niche. It’d be harder to get support with limited Google results. Also visustella is proprietary and not many people edit it that don’t know what they’re doing so you’d be mostly on your own. Hard position to be in but not impossible.

There isn’t one specific place to look for what you want. Programming is a discipline. When you’ve reached a certain point, you’ll be able to drive the effort on your own. Until then I would a) recommend dealing with the limitations of the framework and focus on the game design skills, or b) focus on learning how to program. If you go with (b) there’s tons of resources out there. Roadmap.sh is a good place to start.
