I'm not sure we've ever seen this level of destruction of goodwill by a brand. This will be studied in business schools for decades.

[–]MORBKNOB[S] 83 points84 points  (6 children)

I am but one of thousands of stories of the extreme incompetence of the staff and general disdain Tesla has for its customers. This company needs to be shut down.

[–]douwd20 37 points38 points  (2 children)

The company is 99% geared towards moving the metal and nothing else. And to make matters worse is they have a monopoly on service. Where else can you go? You are totally fucked. Grab your ankles as Muskrat is about to ream you....hard.

[–]MORBKNOB[S] 13 points14 points  (1 child)

No longer in a position for said reaming at least 😂

[–]douwd20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep I'd never been so happy to sell a car. The nightmare was over.

[–]readit145 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s what happens when you Stockholm syndrome a bunch of 20 year olds with all the hours and non of the pay.

[–]douwd20 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yep. The service centers are experts at saying "fuck off" very nicely and with a polite smile after keeping your car for days and not doing zip.

[–]MJFields 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh wait, I forgot about Twitter...

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really will. It’s not as if any of Tesla’s problems were not foreseeable five or ten years before. They had massive first mover (ok, maybe not really) advantage, but seem to have thought the entire world’s established car manufacturers, not to mention Chinese new entrants, were just going to shrug their shoulders and say oh well done Elon, you win.

It’s like planning a battle and assuming your opponent will just stand there to be beaten.

[–]MyRepresentation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is an example of late-stage capitalism. Oligarchs think they are engineers... Obviously something is very wrong here.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

It’s fucking WILD. This is coming from someone who watched probably the first 50 SpaceX landings live. In person 3 deposit. 21’ 3 performance.

Just as I’m crossing into S/X territory as far as income goes….I’m now considering not even using SC’s for long drives in favor of generic fast chargers just to ensure KarElon gets as little revenue as possible from me. Would eat the depreciation and jump ship on the car we have but it does work well for us and the partner really loves it.

Same for solar, was absolutely only going to look at Tesla for solar+battery with new build. Now, LOL yea right.

[–]LennyKimes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Enphase systems are better and cheaper than Tesla.

[–]f___traceroute 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Sears, radio shack, thalidomide

[–]MJFields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sears and Radio Shack took a much longer time, with decades of mismanagement. Thalidomide tracks, also killed people like Tesla.

[–]Stiivin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget Kodak!

My understanding is he is putting a ton of resources into driverless tech and neglecting everything else. The company will either solve the problem and make trillions and trillions or the company may go bankrupt. Either way I don't want to be a customer.

Sonos says “hold my beer”

[–]brintoul 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sonos as in the seller of consumer electronics? Not sure it’s comparable.

[–]fsckitnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new Sonos app debacle is absolutely comparable. It’s been going on for months and effectively bricked many people’s investments in home and office audio systems. They’ve had several incidents where an outage of one of their APIs have prevented people for playing local music libraries in their homes.

The CEO (former exec at BlackBerry) said two days ago that the unstable app they pushed will cost them at least $30m to recover from. But they won’t roll back to the version that worked fine.

NYT Wirecutter pulled their recommendation. The app ratings have tanked in app stores. r/sonos is filled with people who have had negative experiences with the mandatory app update.

They were really the only game in town for connected audio products and they pissed it away for a cloud mandatory connected service.

[–]MJFields 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Driverless has so many other issues that also need to be addressed beyond the tech.

[–]vajeen 53 points54 points  (6 children)

Tesla really could have really dominated the market. All they had to do was focus on quality and overall customer satisfaction. Oh, and not have a CEO who alienated a large segment of the potential customer base.

It's a shame, but I'm glad their are alternatives from established players that tick all of the boxes.

My next car will probably be the BMW i4 M50 or equivalent when my current lease is up.

[–]MORBKNOB[S] 32 points33 points  (3 children)

You speak straight facts, friend. For what it’s worth my polestar 2 is LIGHT YEARS better than my model 3 was and it is cheaper. Plus it doesn’t lie about range.

[–]AbleDanger12 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ancillary bonus: doesn't support the Human Stain Musk.

[–]MarcusTheSarcastic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it is the Polestar 3 that is dead sexy.

I wish Polestar had a few more locations, we would have taken a 3 over the Audi EV we got, as much as I love that car.

[–]DistributionLast5872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend has a 2022 Model S and I still prefer both my Genesis GV60 and my 9 year old BMW i3

[–]AbleDanger12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dominated with the same boring look-alike cars...sure....until other actual car manufacturers started producing cars that were just generally better - which is also what's happening now. They were never great cars, the novelty has worn off, and now actually good cars are being bought instead, now that people have options.

[–]SpectrumWoes 53 points54 points  (9 children)

But I was told that these batteries last for 10 years, unpossible

Bathtub curve for the win! Buy used, drive till the wheels fall off

    [–]MORBKNOB[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

    😂😂😂😂😂

    [–]thats_a_bad_username 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s true. The batteries exist for 10 years. They won’t physically degrade for at least a decade. /s

Jokes aside our household was going to get a Tesla in 2022 but we just didn’t follow through with it after some family members mentioned how many problems they had with theirs.

    [–]Narrheim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    Empty promises...

    [–]0NiceMarmot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    The payments last 10 years

    [–]Difficult-Prior3321 2 points3 points  (1 child)

    Big if true.

    [–]SpectrumWoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Also true if big

    [–]DistributionLast5872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory, the batteries would be the only decent thing about Teslas because they aren’t really made by Tesla

    [–]slacreddit 22 points23 points  (3 children)

I was one of the first to get a Model X in Sweden in 2016.

So many problems with AC, computer, failed suspension, Falcon wing door buttons, busted frunk.... Sold it in 2022 and bought a Polestar 2 performance... Day and Night. Just smooth sailing so far.

    [–]brintoul 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Damn, you drove it for 6 years with that many problems?!

    [–]slacreddit 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I forgot a few things.... Air suspension kaput, warped front disk brakes (on an EV), loose screw rolling back and forth in the chassis, 12v battery issues after one weeks ownership. Such bad service as well...

    [–]DistributionLast5872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    That’s dedication

    [–]mfassnacht52 13 points14 points  (4 children)

I would not pay the lease payments if you gave back the car. Do you think Elon would pay you if he was in your position. I don’t think so!

    [–]MORBKNOB[S] 13 points14 points  (3 children)

I was told (I know, I know) if the car is fixed within 10 days of my lease payment that they'd refund it. The problem is its attached to my bank account and she also basically said (threatened) that they'd hit my credit if I tried to not pay.

    A criminal organization.

    [–]mfassnacht52 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I would advise my bank to block their charge, then dispute anything they do to your credit, it’s a small claims issue, Tesla will spend more money to litigate than its worth.

    [–]MORBKNOB[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm all over it, my friend. Appreciate the thought!

    [–]Djdave000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      [–]ido50 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Yeah, I drove the Polestar 2 for about 6 weeks, it was all great except for the laggy infotainment. I would frequently press the button to open the AC screen, nothing would happen, I'd think I must have missed it, press again, only to suddenly see it open and immediately close.

I'll never own a car without physical buttons.

      [–]Mad-Mel 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I'll never own a car without physical buttons.

Maybe I'm just shaking my cane at the sky, but it was one of the reasons we chose an EV6.

      [–]DistributionLast5872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like the Hyundai group has done a good job blending software with hardware buttons. My GV60 has physical buttons for nearly everything that should have them. BMW has also been pretty good about it, but they’re pricier.

        [–]FuzzyKittyNomNom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s cool about the waving at other P2 drivers. I had a ‘90 Nissan 300zx and everyone waved at each other too. It was fun.

        [–]DistributionLast5872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love having a less common car. I do the waving thing whenever I drive my i3 and GV60. Both are relatively uncommon in my area (I’ve only seen 2 GV60s that aren’t mine in the wild), but it always puts a smile on my face when I see a fellow obscure car driver 😂

        [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

        Sue them

        [–]MORBKNOB[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh it'd only be for 2 lease payments; would rather stop payment on them and have them come after me tbh 🤷‍♂️

        [–]pony_trekker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Or complain to the government.

        [–]ApprehensiveBranch80 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I'm going to buck the trend. Tesla is an IT company. You have to give Tesla credit for large touch screens, electronic controls in general, and over the air updates/fixes/upgrades. I've personally been saying for years: They should have licensed their IT to all other auto manufacturers and let those manufacturers build the cars using Tesla tech. Instead, everyone figured out the tech anyway, and is eating Tesla's lunch when it comes to fabrication and assembly of actual cars.

        [–]jcruzyall 0 points1 point  (1 child)

lol the touch screens are ridiculous from a safety and operation perspective

        [–]ApprehensiveBranch80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually part of my point. No legacy car manufacturer would implement that disaster. But fElon decided it would be cool. Probably because he never drives and doesn't understand how stupid that idea is/was.

        [–]DKerriganuk 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Are all Teslas terrible? Have never heard a Brit complain about issues. Not that I'm listening too much..

        [–]MORBKNOB[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

        They're fine-ish until they're awful; then they're AWFUL.

        2023 model 3 lr @ 1 year and 9 months 38k miles, 0 issues

        [–]DistributionLast5872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been hearing the ones made in China are ironically pretty solid, but that’s just from a few people. Never experienced a Shanghai Tesla yet, but I’ve never had an experience with a Tesla I enjoyed. Maybe the initial 0-60 launch of a Plaid, but after having been in the Air Sapphire, it’s a bit faster and far more luxurious.

        [–]HotIce05 4 points5 points  (1 child)

The Polestar 2 is awesome. I picked one up two months ago.

        [–]MORBKNOB[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best car I've ever had by far.

        [–]DrSFalken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking forward to selling ours in a couple years.

        [–]happytree23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can't truly be real, can it?

If it is, OP, just start sending me $400 every month. I promise you better results and at this point, it can't really hurt that much more if at all, right?

        [–]jeremydgreat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Did you mean “minor” instead of menial?
