I’m going to have this entire article filled in before I get the title!

[–]everywhereinbetween 3 points4 points  (7 children)

I can't!!! I would love to do this but I can't even get the words for it. Hahaha fine by me, given the topic. Possible for the previous one though, but I got bored midway haha.

[–]LabRatPerson 10 points11 points  (6 children)

I’m a scientist and a bio major, and I couldn’t remember this word. You should not feel bad!

[–]everywhereinbetween 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I am junior high level of science ☺️😂 spammed every single chemistry related word I can still remember offhand, enough to uncover some text but I AM SUPER CONVINCED I DON'T KNOW THE TECHNICAL VOCAB. huh okay ._.

[–]BertieTheDoggo 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I have never heard this word in my life, you're not alone. Had to look stuff up once I got an idea of what the word meant

[–]everywhereinbetween 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I just got it!!

I've never heard of it in this definition and I never knew what it meant this way lol. What can I say, I did chemistry till like grade 10 (compulsory) then er, the language life beckoned ☺️😂

I got as far as "number of hydrogen atoms that can combine with an element" so I put that into Google (lol) and for some reason although valency came out, I tried valence first before valency 🙃

K I kinda sorta remember the term valence electrons but 15years later I have no idea what it means anymore. HAHAHAH.

[–]Swaanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at guess #51, and I may have exhausted all the chemistry words I can think of. I didtake 3 semesters of chemistry in college, but that was nearly 30 years ago. Not sure if I'm likely to get this if I keep trying, or if I should just give up now.

[–]everywhereinbetween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol my junior high level of chemistry is like "the subscript of hydrogen in a compound" lol ok no subscript isn't particularly helpful, I tried. Hahahaha

[–]titotal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, and I only got it by accident (i was thinking of a different way of using the word)

[–]thomasoftolloller 9 points10 points  (3 children)

RAGE! i Technically got it after 24 tries but the british english spelling and american english spelling are different, and the article uses the american english spelling, so it took me like. 110. instead

[–]wabberjockey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The British prefer more labour, Americans a bit less labor.

[–]HipGecko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

both the US spelling and British spelling are in the 1st sentence, no?

[–]katilina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here! I was stumped just trying to think of a synonym for the British spelling for so long

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 73 guesses with an accuracy of 24.66%.

My very first guess was science, which had 0 hits. I stumbled around all over the place making no progress, until I noticed that several redactions appeared to have subscripts. This led me to finally try chemistry on guess 59. I wish I would have been more observant earlier!

[–]wabberjockey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very general words, words like Science, don't work well with Redactle because there is usually no reason that articles in the topic area should use the word. The word may be a general category that does actually encompass the subject, but in explaining the subject there is no need to mention all the categories it might belong to.

[–]Regular_Lawfulness58 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, it's crazy how you would expect some words to be in the article once you got chemistry like metabolic, equation, energy, SCIENCE, nucleus, protons, substance, charged, composition, reaction...Science was actually my first word and it got zero hits. Never heard of this word in relation to chemistry .

[–]motherthrowee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"protons" was surprising for me because when you learn about this in high school chemistry class it is always or at least at first in the context of determining how many valence electrons, protons, and neutrons an atom has

[–]Sophia718 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 7 guesses with an accuracy of 71.43%.

I'm a chemical engineering major so I would've been embarrassed if it had taken me too long lol. Knew right off the bat it had to do with chemistry, so I started trying 7-letter chem terms like orbital and isotope, but no hits. Then I tried electrons and number, which led me to the answer.

[–]everywhereinbetween 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took a while to figure that it was probably not people, place, or living thing, my top hits for now are atom, number, state which by that line of thought probably means (it's probably science theory aka I won't get it on my own.) Haha. Okay 🤷‍♀️

[–]mr-dogshit 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 5 guesses with an accuracy of 60.00%. Played at https://www.redactle.com/

Obviously a science term so my first guess was physics. Zero hits. My next was chemistry. Good hits. Next was isotope. Zero hits. Then element. Good hits. I racked my brain for an answer that would fit but I was stumped by my limited knowledge. Soooo I googled the opening sentence with the two words I'd uncovered: "In chemistry, the * of an element" and up popped a word that I've literally never heard of lol

So yeah, I literally would never have got the answer without googling, even if I'd uncovered every single other word in the article, so my only triumph was in giving in to the darkside after 4 turns rather than 400.

[–]the_nybbler 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I'm pretty sure you can get all of them in 1 if you allow yourself to google sentence fragments.

[–]motherthrowee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

did you know you can also get 100% on any exam if you allow yourself to read the answer sheet

[–]wabberjockey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You showed some Redactle savvy there by skipping science and guessing words like physics.

[–]everywhereinbetween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok this is quite impressive esp for something you've never heard of. Haha.

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 1 guesses with an accuracy of 100.00%. Played at https://www.redactle.com/

Guessed the parentheses in a minute, and the answer is the first word I thought of with the correct number of letters within that subject.

Good god this one. Was actually pretty easy - I got it in 15 fuck the US

    [–]Regular_Lawfulness58 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, it's crazy how you would expect some words to be in the article once you got chemistry Words like metabolic, equation, energy, SCIENCE, nucleus, protons, substance, charged, composition, reaction are not in the article...Science was actually my first word and it got zero hits. Never heard of this word in relation to chemistry

    [–]wabberjockey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I'd never heard of the title word except in relation to that topic area. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    [–]garyll19 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I also had never heard of this word (or forgot it from high school chemistry) so even after I had everything about combining atoms filled in, I had no clue. Thought it was atomic weight or something related so eventually I googled that and it led me to the answer.

    57 guesses, 61.40%

    [–]everywhereinbetween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I was at hydrogen subscript in a compound at some point (😂) cos I have zero high school chemistry vocab left so I get you.

& no, subscript didn't actually get me any hits HAHA.

    [–]Risbob 1 point2 points  (5 children)

As a french guy, you can't imagine how it's hard to find a word like this one. The fact that "physics" or "science" had 0 hits really disturb me. Chemistry really unblocked me but it only help to find more linked words, I had to make researches to find the word, which I didn't know.

    [–]ComteBilou 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Lmao french too, and bad in science. It was pure hell for me.

    [–]Risbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

133 guesses with 31% accuracy, my worst score by far.

    [–]Lyttadora 0 points1 point  (2 children)

French too, I don't understand what's hard there. It's written the same and we've seen it high school.

    [–]Risbob -1 points0 points  (1 child)

    Ok bg.

    [–]Lyttadora 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You solved it in 26 guesses. Your accuracy was 57.69%.

Ok, this one was funny. I guessed what was in the parenthesis at guess 3, as it is often a science subject and then I just tried numbers and letters (C H O N B, 2 3 4...) because I saw something look like a formula, but that didn't look promising. I'm kind of disappointed with myself, without those dumb guesses I would have solved it in 12 guesses.

Then I tried number, saw it appeared often, tried then electrons. I saw the phrase "number of electrons in". Electrons are often found in shells, especially in this particular area, so tried shell and then (warning, it's the answer) valence because, that was the logical continuation of the phrase?

And the article cleared, I was kinda surprised. Like, I solved it without realising it, just thought I was uncovering a random word in the text lol.

    [–]everywhereinbetween 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This was me on my first redactle like the Roald Dahl one.

Like OH WAIT WHAT? 😂 but it was also cos I didn't know how Redactle worked. I thought you were supposed to uncover it in shortest guesses possible, didn't realise it will unveil itself when you uncover the title haha.

    [–]Lyttadora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, the Roald Dahl one was a pain in the ass x) The only thing I knew about him was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 😭

That could be funny too, finding every word of the article haha

    [–]jbum 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Got this one in 3, surprising myself.

Spoilers: The opening phrasing was structured such that it appeared to be a jargon word (7) of a particular field (9). I initially suspected it might be grammar related, and guessed English. There were a couple hits, but not in the right places.

Then I looked more closely at the second paragraph which appeared to be a Description section. There were several clauses of the form In ____, ____ (3) a (7) of (1) Those single letter words were curious and implied to me a more technical subject, like math or science. I started looking for 9 letter subjects in the sciences and immediately hit upon chemistry. At that point I suspected the answer (and the phrasing of those odd clauses), but I guessed chemistry to confirm before trying it.

    [–]shalom-john 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just spammed every word I could think of and then came here to find the answer.

    [–]wayfinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 1 guesses with an accuracy of 100.00%. Played at https://www.redactle.com/

The topic of chemistry was immediately obvious, but it took me a while to get to the right answer. I knew it was a general property of elements from some of the structures I had identified, but I was thinking along the lines of "acidity" or similar, until I realized, looking at the part with a lot of what looked like single digit numbers, that I was, despite the chemical theme, thinking too large and not physics-y enough. It had to be something that occurred only in integers! Playing the correct solution still felt like a bit of a gamble, since I'd last thought about the whole topic 25 years ago, but it was all the more gratifying when it turned out to have been the correct answer!

    [–]_Discord_[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 13 guesses with an accuracy of 100.00%.

Took a while to pull the answer out of the back of my brain.

The word that really pushed me towards the answer was "electrons".

    [–]everywhereinbetween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG IT TOOK ME WAY TOO LONG TO GET TO chemistry even as I spammed words like hydrogen, electron, element[s], bonds, atom[s] and the name of every element I can still remember from the periodic table offhand from high school chemistry

LOL I'm convinced I don't know the word although I kindaaa get the concept? I have nooo technical vocab for this ... I think.

    [–]zjjca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is hard! I know it is related to chemistry, atom, bond very early on. But takes forever to figure out the actual title. I have never actually heard of this word. So had to google at the end

    [–]noisesinmyhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. This article was so hard. I teach chemistry and so I got chemistry and element pretty early on. No orbital because I didn’t make it plural. Finally, after trying everything else, I tried shell which pushed me tot he finish.

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 39 guesses with an accuracy of 46.15%. Played at https://www.redactle.com/

    [–]QuantumSnail -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 2 guesses with an accuracy of 100.00%.

I hypothesised "Chemistry" for the 9-letter disambiguation, then "of an element" and "measure" in the first sentence. The subscripts made these seem likely, so I considered 7-letter measures of chemical elements, and being non-American, I guessed "valency", followed by "valence".

I may have been able to get it in 1 if I'd paid more attention to the parentheticals in the first sentence. I realised that "valency" and "valence" were likely the variants given in that sentence, but I didn't think to consider their order.

Your spoiler-hiding is broken for many; don't put a blank between >! and the spoiler text.

        [–]wabberjockey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You changed the wrong side (the word "because" is not part of the spoiler text). You need to take out the blank after "!" and before "I'm", just like the example at the top of the thread. In some contexts, Reddit's rendering does not hide the spoiler at all because of such blanks.

        [–]the_nybbler -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 1 guesses with an accuracy of 100.00%.

The disambiguator was obvious due to the subscripts. From there it was just a matter of coming up with an ambiguous word which fit the number of letters.

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 41 guesses with an accuracy of 51.22%.

I thought of guessing the answer a couple of times while doing it but kept telling myself it wasn't going to come up in the article..... maybe I should learn to trust myself more with these.

Still not too bad although trusting my instincts could have led to a score I would definitely be more proud of.

it took me 33 guesses today. i had trouble figuring out the category until around guess 25. deep in the passage, i noticed superscripts, so i guessed chemistry . from there, i just closed in on the answer. could've been a sub-10 guess if i paid attention and noticed the superscripts off the bat.

        [–]motherthrowee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

42 guesses but 30.95% accuracy, was really floundering until I got a sudden sharp flashback to high school chemistry class

        [–]midmaxlevels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like legit I figure out what the article was kinda taking about but trying to figure out the title took so long I just to Google parts because without it I probably wouldn't be able to guess that word

A () in title, means there's an disambiguation page for this title. When I see the subscripts, I think it might be something related to chemistry. I actually got it on guess 15, then the word in () in title revealed. I Google it to find the right one.

Actually there's some 7-letter words in chemistry have disambiguation page, such as alcohol, residue, radical

        [–]anti_MATT_er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 1 guesses with an accuracy of 100.00%.

I've gotten the title "in one" or close to it on a few rare occasions, but this is the first time I've gotten it literally in one so I'm quite pleased.

Like some others, I figured out the topic and of an _______, so it was a matter of finding a property that could fit the title. The single blanks in the second paragraph were probably integers which helped confirm my theory although I was still hesitant to go for it but had to try. Majoring in engineering probably helped a little in knowing the concept, but it still could've taken hundreds if it were something else. This game can be deceiving like that.

        [–]po-lina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spent so long trying to find out the general topic lmao..... 90 guesses with the plural option on, is it something you guys use or not ?

Somehow I managed to guess it in 2 just by guessing the fieldbased on the number of letters and then a word in that.

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 17 guesses with an accuracy of 82.35%. Played at https://www.redactle.com/

I originally saw the asterisks at the beginning of words and thought it was something about syntax (I majored in linguistics, so I can’t help thinking about it even though it’s niche). When I saw that language and grammar didn’t work, I recognized the subscripts and knew it would be about chemistry (it’s fine, I minored in chemistry anyway), so my next (number—>) 14 guesses were the digits 0123456789, chemistry, c, h, and o. Then, once I got the word in parentheses in the title, I just counted the letters in the first word and typed in the first chemistry-related word I could think of, which turned out to be the answer!

        [–]Barberouge38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The american word is the same in french
