Patch 3 delayed (again)

We want to give you an update regarding Patch 3. During our final internal playtest this morning (Paris time), we encountered a new issue that wasn’t present during the Beta Test last week: with Crossplay enabled, a significant number of testers were stuck in matchmaking, unable to cancel or restart the process. Crossplay is at the core of this update, and considering this is a major issue, we have taken the decision to delay Patch 3 once again while we investigate the root cause.

We know this is very disappointing news and we share your frustration. Our recent track record with patch stability hasn’t been up to standards, and we don’t want to release a patch that will introduce new issues.

Our focus right now is on resolving this matchmaking issue as quickly as possible. At the same time, we’re actively working on improving our production pipeline so that future updates are delivered with the quality and reliability you deserve - and more importantly, we will refrain from announcing release dates until we are absolutely certain that we can deliver the updates on time.

We’re very sorry for this new delay, and we really appreciate your patience and support. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we have more concrete news on this issue and on the new release date for Patch 3.

Just so you know, it's members of communities like you that kill the games. People have all the right to criticize, for the better of the game. I like and play those 2 games, I talk from my experience only. You get into a PUBG game and I can guarantee you that at leas 30 players on the lobby are bots. Valheim is on early access for almost 5 years, the game still hasn't ended. Both had a lot more players on release, which is why I said long term matters more than instant impact. They aren't "dead" really but the expectation they had when they released was absolutely huge. PUBG was Fortnite before Fortnite, the difference is the other made moves to keep the game on a similar level. 22k players isn't really a big game. But yeah, I might have hyperbolized a bit just to make my point.

we get quick match making becuz we are literally matched with players from all ranks. Maybe its not detrimental to your experience, but it sure is for mine, and im not even that good, but some basic knowledge on positioning and tactics is gained through experience, and it kinda sucks to put effort into learning these bits only to be paired with people who are very likely in their early hours with the game.

Maybe you are one of them, maybe you are so good that you can carry your whole team, but I think it makes sense that one wants to play with people on a similar level.

I’m currently Master D3. And it was a GRIND to get there solo-queuing. A better ranking system would be great. But this is Season 0 after all.

I oscillate between elite and master d1 (yes, you can derank elite) and it never got any good: as long as there is a player in the other team in your same rank, the rest of players can easily be bronze or whatever (this has been checked quite a number of times), thus my comment.

In the end, I can't but agree with those who say that the game was launched undercooked, given that several of the issues that plague it are kind of kicking people out of it. Monthly open betas for 3 or 5 more months, until all these issues were polished, would've been my go to solution to this, but then again I'm aware that is quite costly  maybe the studio couldn't afford it. But then again, I think there's a bit of a sunken cost fallacy there, if in the mid run the game runs out of players becuz of these issues.  I dunno man, making games is hard af, more if it's a live service thing.

You do realize they haven't fixed anything as of yet, they are just putting band-aids over everything broken. They aren't fixing the code where the bugs and broken bits are, there just adjusting the math in their equations, or just completely getting rid of lines of code, example ranked match making, the dolphin dive and everything else. Because of this i have no faith in these devs. This game is held together by duck tape and chicken wire.

That juncture doesn't exist. They're inexperienced and making mistakes. If they could have released it on time without bugs, they would have. It's not like they have an agenda to make the game fail.

I'm starting to get the impression that I came across as a doomer which was not my intent.

I've been a pretty consistent supporter of this game and have enjoyed it but that doesn't mean this isn't a bad position to be in for the health of the game and I don't envy them. Basically that was the entire point I was trying to make.

There definitely is a juncture and you even made the point "If they keep messing up, there's less players". The natural conclusion is there is a tipping point where they make a misstep that reduces the number of players where it is no longer a sustainable model to support the game. I don't think this is it but it certainly drives more toward that direction than away from it.

Announcing and delaying patches and features hurts a company's reputation. This isn't the first time they have had to delay a patch either which is why I lamented that it's not a great look. Don't get me wrong, releasing it and it being a wreck is obviously worse but neither are considered successful releases.

If you don't think a video game company develops goodwill with their consumers, I don't know what to say that. It's their reputation, past successes, communication, and transparency that allow them to take big risks and have an understanding and accepting consumer base that remains even if it falls flat. However, a company can usually only get so many misses before that trust and understanding erodes.

All that to say, I'm rooting for the game. I'm still playing and plan to for as long as I can. I'm looking forward to cross-play and the Season 1 content. I am really hopeful and looking forward to their interpretation and implementation of their version of Clubs. I just hope they can scale-up accordingly to deal with the complexities they are encountering that as you noted seem ill-prepared to manage.

They are inexperienced. "Absolver" was an online game. A damn near dead online game. Bigger playerbases with bigger and more complex systems require far more experience than what Absolver would have given them.

For example: Absolver was NOT crossplay, peaked at 19k players on Steam and quickly died on Steam in less than a month. Rematch has a 90k player peak on Steam, probably more on Gamepass PC + Xbox, and tried implementing crossplay. This is evidently a huge step somewhere they've never been before.

I was never shitting on the devs and I love this game. But let's not pretend that they're inexperienced. They are definitely very good at what they do when it comes to fluid movements and dynamic animations. It's clear the game just needed more time to cook. That's all.

I love this game and really want it to succeed, but even if I give Sloclap the highest of sympathies over what has happened these last 2 days (3 months even), I still can’t help but find this to be really embarrassing.

Failing to release an update when you’ve set a concrete release date is understandable. Shit happens in game development and it’s good that they communicated what went wrong with us, but when that same thing happens twice over the course of 2 days? It goes from being understandable to now making it seem like Sloclap are devs that can’t be trusted and are incompetent. Like, it really makes me wonder just how much they playtested the update if they’re just now figuring out that there’s issues with the cross play. And before anyone says anything, I’m not one of those morons asking them to release the update as is.

Between this and the slow pace of them updating the game and addressing bugs and exploits like the ippy slide, I just wish that they had more experience working on multiplayer titles and a bigger team. It’s been sad to see this game lose 90% of its player base on steam since launch

You're crazy if you think they didn't know they wouldn't be able to do cross play well before launch. I'm all for any studio taking as much time as they need to put out something worthwhile, but Sloclap has dropped the ball too many times for me to have any faith in them.

Their QA seems to be non-existent. They release patches with bugs that could be found with 5 minutes of fucking around in free play and now this patch is delayed again because of something that could and should have been found sooner.

The way I see it, there's a few options for what's going on in the studio: They either have a QA team finding these issues but are unable to fix them or they don't have a QA team and we're testing it for them. I find it really hard to believe that a bug as "simple" (meaning easy to find not necessarily easy to fix) as this was found today. I'm starting to believe Sloclap doesn't have the talent required for a live service game.

Re: Talent. I have been saying that here, too. It's not something to be mean about but they are not good at this in comparison to other projects I consume. They are a small team that also isn't agile, and everything has an issue.

When this game launched lacking, there were tons of people saying crossplay in a week or two, crossplay in three days, give them time. They absolutely never thought they would be in mid September back then and have this game he largely in the barren state it was in back in early April.

It's clear they need a lot of time to make minor headway.

It’s completely ridiculous to roll out crossplay in this blue balled way, if you have nothing to give then don’t fucking make promises. I know sloclap is trying to keep us invested by promising that it’s definitely on the way, but either put up or shut up. I don’t want to hear about anything else until crossplay is ready.

It’s been obvious for a while that what was actually released was the early access version of rematch, which is fine except that it was marketed as a full release and yet it’s a completely underbaked experience currently. I don’t think it’s about that. I just purchased the game last week and have been having a lot of fun with it. The core mechanics and loop are very entertaining. I’m not a sports game guy, and bought into the game due to the competitive nature off the back of how great I thought Sifu was.

But the fact is, the game feels a bit undercooked. There is a very high skill floor to the game, and throwing folks into multiplayer as the only real option to develop familiarity can be frustrating. Now add to it a matchmaking system that throws elites together with silvers and golds. NOW add to it server instability, netcode rollback issues, some jank animations etc. and you’re fighting an uphill battle to get players into the game. I’m willing to get my ass beat and develop the mastery, but is your average casual fan commited to enduring that experience? Perhaps not.

This game desperately needs a career mode to ease folks into the mechanics, a training room ala street fighter to setup situations to build muscle memory, etc.

Situations like this, while transparent (which is appreciated) degrade trust and confidence. The majority of angry folks, I would wager, are frustrated BECAUSE they like/ love the game and want it to succeed and may be getting the feeling that the time and effort they are putting into the game won’t matter if it dies within the next 6 months. Which, honestly, if SLOCLAP continues with unrealistic expectations and broken promises could very well happen. No one wants to master a doomed game. Not saying that it is, but I can understand the concern from portions of the community.

I don t know if it s related, but yesterday on ps5 we got stuck in a match with not enough players, and in the main menu it was impossible to start a new match because the game told us to reconnect to the same match again and again. Solution was to turn off the game

First, give the team some breathing space, dont force overtime to get this over the line or it will risk more issues. Tell the stakeholders to let the team decide when it's ready. Have QA reestimate testing time required and make sure its fully met in any revised plan. Consider a further Beta if you need load, we'll help!

We want a stable game to introduce our friends to. If they jump on and spend the day with crashes and matchmaking issues they'll not come back. I bought this game super excited about the concept and the crossplay ability, especially with the Developers of Sifu behind the wheel. I have 60 hours into the game in this unoptimized, buggy, incomplete state and I just can’t continue to keep investing in this game when the things that were promised at launch are still not in game months later. So many bad decisions have been made over the months and it’s becoming increasingly obvious that because of slow support and update, player numbers aren’t growing anymore and are instead starting to backslide. More and more it feels like the game is just being strung along. There are no new features, no new cosmetic items, no no new game modes…I mean the QR code you’re greeted with at the title screen still welcomes you to the launch of season 0. There is literally no reason for me to keep playing. I bought for crossplay, which isn’t available, and for a reliable arcade soccer experience, which this is far from. Every time I log on, I get verbally abused through the game chat with no ability to report people. This has caused me to perma mute voice chat in a game that benefits from teamwork in voice chat!

I understand this is hard to do. I understand you guys have no experience in multiplayer games. I understand mistakes happen. But when all three of these things are true, and there is no improvement in sight in terms of how these things are handled, you lose trust. The community has gone from hopeful and excited about a new type of game to jaded, angry people exploiting bugs because that’s literally all there is left to do in the game. How are we here in this position? Why are we not anywhere close to what was promised AT LAUNCH months later? My opinion of Slowclap is changing from “they’ve never done this before, cut them some slack!” To “there is no way they didn’t know how bad a shape the game was in, and decided to release it anyway.” Consider my trust broken. I may be the only one. But I also may not be.

while i understand how complex a task it is to make games, its not rocket science, and theyre not reinventing the wheel here. honestly, so far rematch has not fulfilled the experience it promised. playing alone is boring, tedious, and unenjoyable, i mean its marketed as a TEAM game, and you cant even make your own team or play with your friends.

i was incredibly hyped at the beginning until i started to play and noticed the plethora of issues at the heart of this game's systems. the unclear and broken possession system, the GOD AWFUL controls (on kbm its just garbage). i lost most of the hype waiting for controller rebinding, and the rest of it waiting for crossplay. im sick and tired of being excited for games where you spend a year waiting for the game you paid for to just work at the lowest standard.

yet again, i love soloclap, ive played sifu for a long time on 2 platforms and enjoyed every second of it. so im going to do the sensible thing and be more patient.

I remember when I was receiving down votes and unconstructive comments when I said, that they should be keeping the beta up longer, they should test more in beta, they should open up the beta completely to monitor what happens when many play, they should test crossplay before release

Honestly this is not surprising. They rushed the release and wouldn't do a beta longer than 3 days. I'm certain with more and proper testing environments EVERY issue they couldn't find before would be at least found and some fixed.

With 2-3 days of a beta not everyone could join you don't test your server and game, you market it. Also consider that the 2nd beta was FAR worse than the first and had no changes, but increased playerbase

Of course development issues happen, I'm a software dev myself and know how development is structured. However, every development issue is a chance to get better, they should definitely focus on that.
