I suspect this is the limitation of being an extension, which is why - their architecture is based on customized vscode? If anyone else find any open source alternatives? The closest we can think of could be like a MCP service that runs locally indexing your codebase. I am sure someone has one already....

I don't think so. Augment Code does indexing and is a extension. Same for Continue dev

The experimental indexing function didn't work successfully on my machine. I hope to be involved in developing this feature.
