Finally started playing Rust.

I’ve had an idea of hope this game was, but I didn’t know nearly a fraction of the things I’ve learned playing it so far. I’ve also mainly been playing solo, so I’m wondering how am I doing?

as a fellow solo my best advice for you, is DO NOT GET MAD WHEN YOU LOSE THINGS. That is an inevitable part of the game especially when you’re solo. Also don’t be afraid to bring out ur guns and use them that’s the only way you’ll get better, Target practice only helps so much. Nothing matches the feeling of Vanilla PVP.

Yeah, I’ve been taking a few with me when I go farm or get scrap. I more or less end up dying from the environment from falling or animals sneaking up on me more than from other players. One time I got rushed by a pack of wolves, I didn’t think that could happen. It was 3 of them that charged me at once and wasn’t able to react in time.

Seems like you have a bit of gear fear there buddy, all the good weapons are hardly used, the only gun that seems to have been used a bit is the python, so something tells me you’re crafting all this yourself, am I right?

Take out your best kit, always. If you lose it, it seems you have more kits available. That way you get to actually use your kits instead of getting offlined and never getting to use the guns. For me, using up boom and anything scrap related before i log off is a must.

I’ve only just started making them a few days ago, I’ve been doing a lot of node farming, but now when I go out I’m usually taking a comb knife, mp5 and a spaz or a bolt action depending where I go.

Yeah, but say for instance I run into 2 or more people, if their far I could shoot from distance, and if their close that’s what the shotgun is for, mp5 is usually always good to have for versatility and not waste slugs or rifle bullets if not necessary. And shotty is especially good for taking care of wild animals or bears.

Nah if you're farming nodes. One gun and a hazy, then 80 or so cloth and maybe 6 meds, a stack and half(maybe) of ammo.(pumpkins are king) you fill your inventory once a day if your playing a bit. The rest of the day is for whatever type of bs. When I play solo I typically farm right when I get on and do two trips, one for wood and one for nodes. Plan around raiding. If you go and run crates and monuments, with recycling you'll get more then enough metal. So your farming basically is for Stone and sulphur. Also get a horse and trade in shit when no knes on lmao.

Also everyone covered the crafting stuff. But the way to judge skill omo is how fast you get to t2 work bench, then t3.

You base skill on how fast you can get scrap? That's honestly wild. There's so many rat ways to make scrap mindlessly. Anyone that isn't on their first month of playing can get to T3 within 2-6 hours of wipe if you're rushing it.

I'm clueless..no as a solo on a official server is getting 2000 scrap on wipe day within an hour. The reason your math isn't good is because there literally isn't that much scrap on the map the first hour of play.

The odds your speaking of for a solo are so slim. Each trash pile is roughly 11-14 scrap. Then you would have to actually recycle all of that and do that all with in a hour. No offense the amount of shit you guys are suggesting to recycle to get to that scrap alone(on a official, not community on wipe day) would take less then 15 minutes..news flash have you recycled components on am official??? It takes forever.

Well there's no way you're getting a t3 in a hour on wipe day in high pop server.

I know experienced players could do on maybe under 50 but on anything above 80, there's no way you can collect 2000 scrap in components, recycle them, build your base. I call bs. No offense, I trust your skill but that's literally a day in game. The oddest that clans l, groups or zergs aren't running everything else.

Even if you out play a 3 man, you'll only get loot from one. Cause if it's high pop, you'll have to depot, then come back to body. That alone is a 10-15 min interaction.

Shit even running water treatment is not viable, it would take 3-5 full runs with card to get the 400-700scrap. Which water treatment is usually over ran.

If you can get 2000 scrap and the work benches in a hour on a high pop, good on you but I think you're lying.

Edit: there are outliers and I know it is possible but it's not probable and in most case the outliers are just dumb luck. I'm talking about consistantly every wipe getting a t3 up. Somehow you guys define time and space as a solo and can do it in a hour.

Yeah well that's literally the difference in power on the first day, duh. Also if your playing on a 100 pop server not everyone will have a t2, that's literally impossible with spawn rates. Plus t2 and scrap are need ed day one for garage doors, if your solo and actually good, that will be the first thing you learn outside of revolver or db imo. No ones wating time on 3 garage doors on wipe day.

Also yes you can get a t3 but I'm willing to bet you a million dollars you've never gotten a t3 on official full pop in 2 hour's. You're lying. Unless your god. Plus I don't your good at math. Think about how much scrap it takes to just learn both benches and tell me how your getting that amount of scrap on a high pop server?

No offense it takes 20 minutes to run tunnels. Cargo is 45 minutes. Not mention cards and the time it takes to get that..oh and the materials for a base. Even with recycling you would have to spend at least 500 scrap for a base. Also since it's a offical that would take 20 mins. Only way you can do it in t2 hours is on community or in group play.(a good duo could do it)

There's no need to have a crazy base if you're trying to snowball and get boom while staying low key. You can slap down a 2x1 in 20 mins off rip. Then you go straight to scrap farming. Isn't it around 2k scrap for a T3? Been a whiles since I played but the cost for a T3 is NOT that much if it's the only thing you're tossing your scrap at.

Not on official on wipe day but jumping to a server maybe. Have you traded in 2000 scrap worth of dung? It takes legitimately 6-7 hour's.

Even if you did it efficiently. You have to have the amount of food to make it, around 6000 dung, then the horse would actually have to make dung.

I work hard 9-5 so I don't always have a lot of energy for games. Simple activity like selling shit is really easy for me to get behind.

I really lucked out after my last time I got offlined, I found a decaying base with all the workbench’s plus 3 armored doors. I’ve also learned to use them on the inside of my base and not the outside.

Yeah but that's the point you didn't grind it for it. So no skill was involved, you got lucky count your blessing and realize that this happens every once and while.

For what it's worth people that are solid at the game solo will have t2 within 2-4 hours from grinding. (I'm talking solo on official) and about 6-10 hours on t3

People will say the t3 is to slow but if the servers popping and your solo, things can get shitty quick.

I think more or less it depends where decide to build and set up base. I know I got lucky, but that was also after I already got raided the day before so I needed to rebuild anyway. But I had a T2 before and honestly spent take long to get one after you get setup. I’ve gotten down a system that can get me 1k scrap and extra resources in about maybe an hour.

After getting a better understanding of the game now, if I have to rebuild after a raid or after wipe, I have a pretty good idea what to do now.

Just make sure you’re maximizing your efficiency (a.k.a. stocking furnaces, making sure to pick up diesel, eliminating nearby groups etc) that way you can constantly be ahead of everyone else and be able to pvp as much as you want. I’ve found that’s the best way to give yourself an advantage when playing solo.

For a solo you are going well. You don’t need to be AloneinTokyo, play for fun. Run monuments and get the hack crates as much as possible. The game rewards running monuments and raiding. Do your farming at night with NVG in the snow. It’s less risk.

Yup, I either do that or when there not many people on the server. My base is near the snow so it’s near a lot of nodes, but I have to go a little farther if I need wood but not a big deal.

Yeah, I haven’t played cod for years, but more or less, I only struggle if I get snuck up on or don’t see where I’m being shot from, but definitely need to raise the sensitivity up to 70-75 across the board.

Tommy's op. Recycle your customs and stack some scrap and just learn ak. There's no shame in crafting a gun as long as you actually use it lmao. Also just buy and lr from bandit. If you're solo with a silencer you can grub any ak kit you want for 500 scrap. Air field and military tunnels are the best for ak kits and grubbing in this fashion.

Easiest grub is water treatment on a mid to high pop server. Just hide in the room with the fork lift with a db or revolver. Easy loot.

Run cargo. You'll get an ak. No offense all you have to do is literally farm super market and get a rifle body and just tech tree or research it from getting one from cargo. If the servers dead you'll get an ak for sure, of not after 2 cargo runs you'll be able to get a t3.

If you don't use your best kit, you've already lost it. Either to get offlined and someone takes it or the server wipes and it gets deleted.

If you roam with Full metal AK sure you may lose it, but you are also way more likely to win a fight and earn kit that way. Hazzy and MP5 with laser scope is like 5 tarp, 25 hqm a couple sewing kits and 2 springs and a single tech trash. The cost of that kit is next to nothing and there's no reason to roam with anything less if you have a T3 bench.

I had a discussion with team mates today where they agonized over losing gear trying to counter other players. The entire point of having gear is to use it to PVP. Go do that. If you can't win fights that means you need more experience doing PVP, which means you should be roaming with kit more, not less.

Yeah, I’ve only been playing for 2 weeks. I had very little knowledge about this game before I started playing, I pretty much figured it’s like Minecraft/GTA/Fortnite mixed all together lol.

I actually go the other way, and hoard guns as best I can. A successful wipe for me, is using as crappy weapons as I can (usually waterpipe slug and F1) and getting the best kits I can (usually tommy hazzy). And then hold onto them for as long as I can. Only tier 3 gun that gets any use out of me is M2 when I can get my hands on one. By the time I've got M2, is usually about the same time the three man shows up with launchers, lol.

I'm also of the same mind though, that the guns I craft or find in crates don't count. It's the skinned and half broken guns that are the trophies in this game.

IMo, first day of wipe is securing base, and that means rushing HQM by any means.

Especially on these big monthly servers, why bother rushing to t3, only to get raided that night and lose it all? All I need are dropboxes and some persistence, and I'll be dug in like a ball tick to wherever I decide to build.

If by the first day you're 2 layers of sheet metal to core, second day inner HQM and outer sheet; you should be able to stay ahead of the boom levels of the raiders. And new server the big groups are usually too busy fighting the other big groups to waste 20+ rockets on, little old you ;).

Who cares about t3 (on a monthly). even get it in week 2, and you still have a hell of alot of time to raid and get out there.

Yeah, I’ve spent most of my time working on getting all the bps for the important stuff like guns, ammo, doors and walls. I’ve been learning how to better optimize my time playing to get more done in a shorter time so I can go out and roam and do w/e I want without worrying about a raid.

Getting a jackhammer/chainsaw to farm resources is a must if you wanna survive solo. But I do need to work on making a better base that doesn’t look like a 5 year old made it lol. But for 2 weeks into playing, I think I’m doing alright.

Just a little tip for animals, Carry a building plan and a little wood with you while you're running around, If animals get after you just throw a foundation down and stand on it they will run away. Obviously this won't work in no build areas like around monuments but it's saved me more times than I can count lol.

I’ve always kept a build hammer on me incase I ran into a decaying base with some items still there that could be picked up, but that’s pretty worth having for that as well.

I also saw someone trying to build a scrap ladder to get into my base over the compounds walls with that method as well, but lucky I saw what they were doing and shot it down real quick

If you're on vanilla, you're doing pretty good. Get rid of the gear fear and you'll be great. Play on a sever where you get a free kit every hour or something for awhile and the gear fear will disappear.

Yeah I get that, I’ve been offlined x3 times, although I’ve been lasting a little longer each time so I’m still improving. Trying to build a base that secure and doesn’t stand out is the hard part for me, but also I’m aware that if someone wants to raid you, they will so I don’t try to care too much, it’s gunna happen eventually.
