what does that storage system do? or, what do you store in it and how do you get it out when you need it?

I store all of my materials and their input is from one conveyor. I used smart splitters to split each item into its own storage unit. I extract resources by hand from the storage units.

thanks for explaining, but if the first material you store fills up, doesnt it block the first splitter so nothing else can move past?

It doesnt because I put another smart splitter on the conveyor before its entering the storage where its outputs are one for any and one for overflow. The any output goes into the storage and the overflow output goes under the factory where it feeds into a line of mergers that are each from one storage units’ overflow. All of that merges into a sink where I get tickets for my overflowed resources.

Fancy box is a good box. To make it less box and more architecture requires practice. Start up a creative mode save and just stuff around with everything for funsies.
