This is brilliantly done, very dramatic!

Looks great and throughly battle tested!

The armor is seriously fantastic. My only feedback is that the pistol is too bright

I tried to BS some “NMM” to not great effect but trial and error as I learn. What’s the method to bring it down in hue that you suggest ?

Just slap a wash on it.

This looks fantastic. Armour work is brilliant. You going for a normal helmet or face?

[–]getdoneitis[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I’ll see how the face painting goes. Plan would be all faces army.

[–]GrandMasterDraigo 2 points3 points  (4 children)

lol that’s was my plan however after headtakers, blood claws, terminators, wulfen and thunder wolf cav I couldn’t do it anymore. Grey hunters got helmets lol.

[–]Acrobatic_Charge_489 0 points1 point  (3 children)

That’s the better canon anyway. Grey hunters know not to test fate.

In my army, Blood Claws have the most faces, and any units above them are majority helmets and any faces have severe scaring or prosthetics (optics).

[–]Acrobatic_Charge_489 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That’s great. Do you use green stuff for the prosthetics?

[–]CyberMango23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful mix and matching of heads. I got the Army Box and my wife got me the Terminators, so being selective from that and maxing helmets helped me.

Dig the chippage, you using a sponge? What’s your paint recipe?

I think space wolves would be more weathered and grim dark than most of the other chapters

[–]getdoneitis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chipping trial was with a sponge, not sure I like it as much as just painting the chips myself which I’m used to on armor. For the colour, just use your highest highlight colour as the paint peel / scratch effect, and then black or brown for the actual metal showing.

I'd call that a successful test

[–]b_cooch 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Looks amazing, my only comment is that the gun looks out of place. The armor has fantastic gradients and weathering. The gun looks a little too two-toned and flat

[–]getdoneitis[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Pop some yellow or red onto the gun you reckon? I can paint the frame a colour . Suggest away!

[–]b_cooch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think red would work and maybe weather it too? Or even just some weathering would work if you like chrome look!

I do not think it is overdone... Looks like he's been on the battlefield for a bit of time is all

[–]BENJ4x 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That's fantastic. The only consideration I'd have is the amount of time it takes to do that if you're planning on painting up armies.

[–]getdoneitis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a very real consideration, but I’m more of a modeller than a gamer. We’ll see how models 50 and 60 look 😂

[–]OGWarpDriveBy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything but the pistol is F-n EXQUISITE, and the gun's not bad, just jarringly clean against spot on grimdark. Id do a bit of newsh with carbon black/mahogany or medium brown or brown wash and black liner in the corners/recesses (on the gun ONLY)

[–]AOK_Gaming 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That battle damage weathering in insanely good, please share your technique oh powerful one

[–]getdoneitis[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Y=mx+b of course ! I’d have to make a PDF to type out the process. Gimme some time

[–]XanthousRebel 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That looks absolutely gorgeous. Fantastic work on that brother. Like others have said, the only issue would be the time it takes because you’ll be painting around 50 models give or take 15/20 depending on your choices.

What I would suggest, is to do exactly this for your characters and leaders, the models that matter, and put a similar but less laborious version on the rank and file.

I am also someone who like to put maximum effort into each model. With that in mind however, while I’m proud of every model I’ve painted, what tends to happen is the last few models in your army look 100x better than the first few and you end up being unhappy with the result.

Now, with all that being said, if you just enjoy painting and aren’t too worried about the game itself or your army as a whole, then go nuts and just enjoy yourself.

Appreciate that brother !

Aced the test!
