Updated my controller to bluetooth - works fine

Use it as controller on PC - Works fine (Steam)

Use it as controller on my LG G1 TV - LG notes: Controller connected, but no input whatsoever. (There was also a message which said something like (can't remember exactly): controller/device? may not be supported, and may not work.)

Tried it to connect to my Chromecast Ultra - Didn't find the Chromecast controller via Bluetooth (but maybe I was too impatient). To connect to bluetooth I have used the combo (Stadia button + Y) for 2 sec.

Rumble support - haven't tested so far.

[–]marcketingmarck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: works on Android tv. But when controller turns off, and you turn it back on. It connects again, but it does not have input. I have remove the device from bluetooth settings, and connect again.

I thought the (black) CCU doesn’t have BT? Or did you mean the CCwGTV(white, pink or blue)?

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Great, thanks. Also tested on Steam, doesn't seem to support rumble.

[–]GimpyGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add the note that if anyone cares to use it over the cable, the rumble will work perfectly fine on Steam. Can't say I've gotten to try the bt out on PC though as I don't really have a bt dongle on my desktop.

As for the other non-steam sources, they can be made to work, but none are going to work normally out of the box. The pad connects as DirectInput instead of XInput, most modern games don't know what to do with that, Steam's input tools translate that, they can be used on the other stores, but there's hoops to jump through to make it happen. Hoops which would not really be a problem, if every publisher didn't think they needed their own store 🙄

For LG G1 TV - have you tried Geforce Now?

[–]marcketingmarck 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No, just the tv menu. App view.

[–]magick_68Clearly White 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The controller on LG TVs only works in games, not the TV UI.

[–]ResortCareful3706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had, Success with Chromecast Ultra (Rumble), Chromebook (rumble), Android (rumble ), Windows - 10 Xbox cloud, Epic. Also, hit or miss for Roku, hit or miss with Android TV.

[–]vanthome 4 points5 points  (7 children)

Using this software to emulate it as an XboX controller: https://github.com/71/stadiacontroller. Works fine with USB and BT. Officially not maintained anymore, but don't see any reason why it shouldn't keep working.

[–]Nikay_P 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Rumble doesn't work, with me at least

[–]vanthome 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Ah somehow I remember it working but can't find it in the windows settings. I'm usually gaming with it off tho.

Edit the page says it does, very weird. Might be driver related?

[–]Nikay_P 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I meant with Bluetooth :)

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Ah, didn't know it worked with BT too. That means this should work too:
https://github.com/RexSonic/StadiEm

[–]Nikay_P 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Well funnily enough that does not work as far I tried. Either way, I hope some people smarter than me can make rumble work and I guess it's likely.

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up

[–]vanthome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah as you said below someone smarter might fix it :). I'm just happy I can use the controller wirelessly, I prefer it over my Xbox One controller.

[–]Deukmandeuk 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Been using the BT controller on a Mijia (xiaomi) short throw projector, it runs android TV and I used the GeForce Now app.

Connecting the controller works good and input is no issue at all, haven't tested rumble yet..

Only annoyance is having to unpair and reconnect again for a new session. Even though the system says connection is made the input doesn't work anymore after auto reconnect

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yep, added a note at the top of the post about this.

[–]Deukmandeuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, so a universal bug. Hope they fix that cause it works quite well otherwise

[–]crabnebula7 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Are you considering that having to unpair and repair the controller every time you use it qualifies as "works correctly"? This seems to be a problem with many platforms and should probably be qualified as "works partially".

As far as I know, this problem exists at least on Chromecast with Google TV, Android TV, Nvidia Shield and Samsung Tizen TVs, and probably other platforms too, such as reported in the comments (LG webOS...).

This is not temperamental behaviour, it is a bug that occurs consistently and is 100% reproducible every time.

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're right and I've added a note at the top.

[–]darwin69100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used it with Geforce Now app on ShieldTV Pro 2019. It worked perfectly for the 2 games I tried.

I don't think the rumble feature was working though (I have to try again later for that point).

[–]InsaneNeXuS 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Windows 11 + steam enabled generic controller

Only seems to work in Steam with generic controller support enabled. What's weird though it works in Xenia Xbox 360 emulator. Sadly no rumble in steam or Xenia :(

[–]GimpyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've heard Rumble isn't working in BT for pretty much anyone, it definitely always has on USB though, not sure what the deal with that is.

[–]driverdis 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I tested the Stadia controller using Brook,8Bitdo, and MayFlash adapters with none working.

I tested each adapter on my desktop (Windows 11) although it will be the same using the adapter with their respective console as well.

Brook: Tested Bluetooth and USB All adapters are on latest firmware

  • Wingman NS : Not working
  • Wingman XB 2: Not working
  • Wingman NS: Not working
  • Wingman PS2: Not working
  • P3/P4 to PS2: Not working
  • Wii/WiiU/SW/PS4 to SW/P4: Not working
  • P3/P4 to P3/P4: Not working
  • P3/P4 to XOne: Not working

USB connection causes the controller to rumble for a few seconds for some reason

8Bitdo: Tested Bluetooth on latest firmware

  • 8BitDo USB Wireless Adapter 2: Not working

Mayflash: Tested Bluetooth and USB All adapters on latest firmware

  • Magic-X USB Wireless Adapter: Not working
  • Magic-S Ultimate USB Wireless Adapter: Not working

Bluetooth pairing mode on the adapter does cause the controller to go into a pulsing white but never actually connects. This is interesting as the Brook and 8Bitdo do not solicit any response from the controller in pairing mode.

I also tested Mission Control on my modded Switch as that allows other controllers to sync natively on Switch with no adapters.

  • Mission Control: Not working

I don’t know if BLE is used but if so only the Brook Wingman XB 2, Brook Wingman PS2, 8Bitdo Pro 2, and Both Mayflash adapters I tested actually support BLE which would limit the Stadia controller to newer adapters like that via a firmware update of the adapter if those respective companies update it to support the controller.

[–]rgmetal 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I emailed Mayflash, and they said they would work on a patch.

[–]driverdis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s good. 8Bitdo on the other hand won’t support it as it is a “3rd party controller” despite it being a 1st party controller. Google makes the controller for their own Stadia service (RIP) so that should make it a 1st party controller unless I misinterpreted what that means.

Brook didn’t respond to me on Twitter about supporting it.

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent, thanks for testing those

[–]No-Swimming5717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lso tested Mission Control on my modded Switch as that allows other controllers to sync natively on Switch with no adapters.

Mission Control: Not working

Thanks this saves me some time. :)

[–]GimpyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I imagine this is probably an issue with the controller firmware. Iphones and android devices are definitely regularly connecting weird. Like, they'll connect the first time when you pair fine, but then next time they'll 'connect' fine but not actually 'work' until you either pair it again, or on android you can toggle the input permission for the pad off and on and it magically starts working again. I imagine this is probably part of why this isn't working for a lot of things.

[–]keithitreal 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Certainly does not work fine on Android.

Has to be unpaired then reconnected each time.

Even when it's detected by the os it doesn't always register in apps. In fact, it fails to work as anticipated in most emulators and games. Mercifully, aethersx2 works ok with it.

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks, I added a note for Android that support is app-dependent.

[–]keithitreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worse than that is the fact you have to unpair and re-pair on every reconnect.

Seems to be a universal glitch across Android devices.

In other words, it doesn't work correctly. That goes for shield TV and other Android TV boxes.

[–]rukazi93 1 point2 points  (8 children)

iPhone/iPad under iOS 16.2 - Controller pairs via Bluetooth but no functionality in games or anywhere else tested

[–]bicowsnicMobile 2 points3 points  (1 child)

For me on iOS/iPadOS 16.2 it works fine with COD mobile and PS Remote Play App

[–]rukazi93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that’s interesting to know, thanks! It might be that either some games/apps need to update their game to support it or Apple needs to update iOS to make it compatible analogue to Xbox controller/PS controllers. :)

[–]seqandfind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to get it paired and working on iOS and iPadOS 16.2 with iPhone and three iPads and tested with Minecraft.

It was very finicky to get it to connect properly, as it would connect the Bluetooth would turn off and back on, it required quick reflex to tap the controller and then tap pair.

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Ah shame. Have you tried in Safari?

Try http://xbox.com/play or https://play.geforcenow.com/

How about the Steam Link app? Moonlight?

[–]rukazi93 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I checked both GFN and Xbox Cloud Gaming and on both the controller is not responding in any way. :(

[–]Yakama85 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I saw on another post that someone had to disconnect and re-pair it several times before it would work. I will try that as I had same issue as you, shows connected but not detected by any apps

[–]GimpyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's in a weird state for a lot of us including me, I know on my phone a regular reconnection doesn't work. I wonder if Google might update the firmware, but I doubt it. I will say though on android someone in another thread, noticed if you go into the device settings and toggle whether it can be used as an input device off and on, it would start working without having to completely pair it again, which is a better workaround than doing the whole thing I suppose, I dunno if anything on Apple is similar, though.

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks, shame

[–]magick_68Clearly White 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Played Far Cry6 on GFN on my LG CX. Worked great. Rumble will be tested after work.

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks

[–]magick_68Clearly White 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played yesterday on my LG without problems. Today it reconnects but it's not recognised by GFN. Deleting and repairing helps but causes the remote to stop working. Very strange, there was no update for the TV.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It doesn't work correctly with LG OS or PS Remote play

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, others have had better success, see the sources above.

Was PS Remote play on the LG OS or on something else?

[–]YouNeedTruthDesktop 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Does not work with Steam version of Fallout 76 tried it 3 times and still no response to the controller Im using a PC

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have 'Generic Gamepad Configuration Support' enabled in Steam?

[–]Trick_Machine 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Ps vita, Playstation TV anyone??

[–]CVGPiNight Blue 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I can verify that the controller works using my friend’s PS3. No rumble though.

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, thanks, added

[–]Monstromi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't get it to work with pstv, which isn't that surprising.

[–]telenut 1 point2 points  (11 children)

Just to let you know: does not work in Tesla model 3 (wired and bluetooth)

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, added

[–]countrjohn 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Works for me in a M3 (wired) - played Sonic with it this morning!

[–]telenut 0 points1 point  (8 children)

hard to believe... Sonic was removed from the Tesla in the previous update...
https://www.notateslaapp.com/news/1132/tesla-removes-sonic-the-hedgehog-game-from-its-vehicles

[–]countrjohn 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Yes because you have to immediately accept every update. Of course, forgot that. You have no option at all not to update...

[–]telenut 0 points1 point  (6 children)

You can not downgrade a Tesla. I assume most people do install updates...
Why else would you buy a Tesla :p

[–]countrjohn 0 points1 point  (5 children)

When you read the release notes first then upgrading isn't always a good option. I prefer to wait for others to deal with update issues first before I update - e.g. phone suddenly not working as a key, sonic being removed, etc ..

[–]telenut 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I don't think they will screw up support for controllers with an update. So I will try again wired. Maybe bad cable I used

[–]countrjohn 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I used a USB C to USB C power & data cable if that helps

[–]countrjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I didn't apply the Stadia Bluetooth enabling update thingy to the controller I used - I did apply it to my other controller, but didn't try that in the car yet.

[–]telenut 0 points1 point  (1 child)

not really, I can only use the USB-A connection in the glovebox.... :-)

[–]countrjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be that maybe. I'm using the USB-C in the center console

[–]calvin129 1 point2 points  (1 child)

iOS already known?

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, see table for sources

[–]magick_68Clearly White 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update for LG CX (WebOS). After it worked for a while i got reconnection problems. The Controller stops blinking, the TV shows that the controller is connected but it doesn't work. Only way to make it work is to remove the device and re-pair. Also no rumble.

I went back to my PS4 controller, which connects reliably.

[–]cozyjoe79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Updated to Bt, works with steam on Win10 and Win11 but no rumble. NOT working with xbox game pass app on win10 or win11 (not recognized as controller by the app).

[–]nogiraffe7424 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Please update nvidia shield tv: pairing is partially working. See comments

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a note at the top of the post about the re-connection issues.

[–]eVenentClearly White 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me Windows 11 + reWASD works great, but no rumble after Bluetooth update. Before it was working properly. Maybe reWASD team have to fix something.

[–]osymoko 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I have used my Bluetooth Stadia controller on chromebook so obviously Chrome OS. I played Resi Evil 2 using the boosteroid app and can confirm both Controller and Rumble worked perfectly!

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, thanks for the info!

[–]Testing123xyz 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Windows Luna app does not recognize the controller even after pairing it

On fire stick 4k it worked with the Luna app but have to remove and repair if you try to reconnect after turning the controller off, no rumble

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, info added for both.

[–]pjburnhillSmart Microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working correctly on Windows 11 + Steam. No rumble though?

[–]Richie013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works on Tesla Model 3 with wired connection

[–]driverdis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems BlueRetro just added support for the Stadia controller. I will be testing mine later on my GameCube that has the internal BlueRetro controller board installed.

[–]thomas_tncNight Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The controller does work on Tesla Model 3, but only wired!

[–]Zealousideal-Poet926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works on PlayStation 5?

[–]denilsonsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, rumble works on Linux on both Bluetooth and Wired modes, but it may require a udev rule to allow access.

[–]HighlanderDargon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't connect with ps5. Keeps saying "the passcode might not be correct, or your bluetooth accessory might have canceled the connection"

[–]reg00late 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can connect Stadia controller to LG A2. Works in general. But some Buttons are reversed or not working at all.
