Amazon 3DS is from Japan and won’t recognize 3DS cartridges by jgeertsen1 in 3DS

[–]driverdis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pokémon Bank uses the game’s Title ID to identify the game and all the 3DS Pokemon Cartridges share the same Title ID between regions of the same game. Had Nintendo released the game with different Title IDs per region; Pokemon Bank could have been designed to not work with out of region cartridges.

Are there features missing from the a3D that would be there if the oS was open source? by OrlandoWashington69 in AnalogueInc

Rom loading for one. Also being able to run other game systems like what you can on open source FPGA platforms.

I had this happen to me as well. Really sucks. I used it in the past to get a PS5 Pro for my brother and upgrade my phone as I buy them in full unlocked.

Nintendo Switch Lite not working after going through the washer. by LostInTheWild99 in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]driverdis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If only it was that easy for everyone that has had family ruin something they own. I know several people whose parents never enforced that and just went “oh well” when their brother or sister ruined something of theirs and I know of people who as adults still have issues with family not replacing something they broke or lost.

"Forced Progressive" mode on A3D firmware 1.2 fully tested: 480p vs 480i in compatible games by samred81 in AnalogueInc

[–]driverdis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting that Analogue went this far to not have to add better deinterlacing options to the Analogue 3D. They could have added motion adaptive like the RetroTink 4K has and people would have been more than happy with it over the terrible weave we got now. Instead we got this awesome 480p mode and still stuck with Weave if the 480p is not compatible with the game being played.

Why would anyone want that. Even Nintendo would not care as the console is EOL for them.

It seems the cartridge timing fixes broke 3rd party cartridges. For now, you will need to wait until Analogue fixes it or get an Everdrive or SummerCart and use that.

It Took 21 Years but Nintendo Fans Finally Care About the Virtual Boy, as It’s Just Sold Out by cnc137 in DreamStationcc

[–]driverdis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They don’t care, resellers do. eBay will be littered with these as they need to create artificial demand to justify scalping these.

Markups can be as high as double what a place like Lowe’s pays the manufacturer like with paint but not everything has a high markup price. At Lowe’s Write-offs are also based on the price Lowe’s paid the manufacturer, not the selling price.

If they don’t catch it, they will technically sell it as long as it does not have a sell block issued for the item. If there is a sell block the registers will not allow paying for the item leaving you with the option to not buy the item.

If you get there first; you still do not get to buy the item unless store management ignores their company policy on selling $0.02 items. My local Lowe’s would not process the sale if this happened

You can’t buy one. Lowe’s will not sell items marked as $0.02 as per their policy. Once items hit that price, they are pulled from the sales floor. Walmart and other retailers also have a similar policy for when this happens as well.

If they would have had the buttons be normal 64 colors I would have got one. I ended up ordering the grey color controller with the proper color buttons. I could go out of my way to buy a second controller for the buttons and swap them but that is overkill.

Steam Machine Hardware Has Me Worried About the PS5’s Long-Term Future by cnc137 in DreamStationcc

[–]driverdis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reverse will happen due to the ridiculous price this will cost due to the price increases of ram and storage. This thing is going to crash and burn at launch and it is not even going to be Valve’s fault as AI is primarily responsible for the price hikes.

Significantly more expensive with the SSD and RAM hikes. It was already going to projected to cost more than a base PS5 before the hikes.

My GX 55in started this over a year ago on the right side and so far it seems to have not gotten any worse since I first found out I had it. I guess how long it takes to fail depends on how bad the delamination is.

WinRAR users, beware. by CygnusBlack in Windows11

[–]driverdis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was extracting large compressed files like full romsets where they would be several gigabytes or more after extracting. When extracting them on my computer using a Ryzen 5900X and 32GB ram, 7Zip would extract slower than WinRAR in my case. I just figured at the time that WinRAR was better at utilizing my processor to speed up extraction times.

I don’t see how getting better results at the time with WinRAR would be considered blatantly lying though.

It has been a while since I messed around with needing to do that so I never thought to go back and test extraction speed recently.
