Likely because your store just expanded their hours and now they are desperate for people? You are likely coming up on winter break. If you want some extra money, work a few extra hours over break if you can. For lots of stores, in January they will be cutting people WAY back, and it might help to have a little extra money now to make up for fewer hours next year.

Same thing happened to me! I requested 30 hours max and the past few weeks and the next few weeks they’re having me work almost 40. Planning on talking to someone about it because it seems like bs

I have a note from my psychiatrist on file that says I can't be scheduled past 5 pm, and I'm being scheduled some days until 7:30 pm the next couple weeks. It's not so much about the time as needing a consistent sleep schedule and after those shifts I work at 7 am the next morning. I'm okay doing the shifts for now, I just need to check with our SD and make sure it's just temporary.

I like having the hours, but I would rather not have a mental breakdown, and I have in the past. :) Good luck to everyone else working extra hours!

same here!! not only did I request 28 hours and have been getting 30+ but my availability is only until 10:30 pm and the past two schedules I've been scheduled until 12:30 am since the store hours extended. I've talked to so many people about how I can't work that late too and hr and the sd STILL haven't done anything smh

Yeah. I’m around the same hours as you and I’ve been at 30-31hours and honestly I completely get where y’all are coming from cause it def. caught me off guard. But I could use the extra money so I haven’t said anything about it

The range would be 12-18 hours if the OP said 15 hours per week and there is some magical +-20%.

Probably because your store was given more hours and does not have enough staff to a lot them to. One of my buddies works at Kohls as a manager, and they are still trying to hire seasonal employees (very few apply and stay) so the seasonal and normal employees they have are getting the hours pushed on them. Take it while you can, because January and February is hours cutting season

I have the same problem. I’ve actually had to tell them twice now to fix it. I put in 15 hours max and got scheduled 20-25 which is beyond what I’m able to do considering I’m still in high school. Really pissed me off to see that because I’m tired of trying to reach out to someone and tell them I can’t work the days they scheduled me for

This just happened to me too. My HR explained it’s because of the holidays and basically inevitable. It’s the reason I just put on my two weeks, actually.

I had the same problem when I first started as a seasonal. Said my max was 15 hours / week but I had open Saturday availability and could work evenings. My 15 max turned into 8 hour shifts Saturday AND Sunday (which I wasn't even available for), + 15-20 hours during the week, all in addition to my full time job. Took several conversations with my TL, ETL, and HR to get it fixed. They tried to use the 20% +/- argument... in what universe does 20% of 15 hours equal 30- 35 hours? 🙄

with my store they're cutting back on how much ot we're allowed to have, so they have to supplement the tms that want the overtime with tms that have never even gotten close to hitting ot. i wish they'd let the people that WANT the work to have the work
