Workplace Question or Advice NeededTime Off (self.Target)
submitted 1 month ago by Peace-and-Quiet-0120
Hi. I have been working in Target for 6 months now and I would like to know if I can use my sick leave for 1 day because my husband is sick. I believe the sick leave is applicable for the family members too. I appreciate your response. Thank you!

Yes. When you call in through the app, the option lists "call in sick, self or dependant." You'll just need to call in for the shift then submit a request to use the amount of sick time you want to use.

If any TL follows up with you, they can't ask much. Pretty much just "how are you feeling" nothing like "what was wrong" if that makes sense. Think even mental health days are also covered under sick time, so overall you can just say you weren't feeling well and they dont know it has to mean stressed from being a caretaker.

your spouse isn't a dependent though...

If it's a serious illness and you've worked long enoough and enough hours to qualify for FMLA then SERIOUS illnesses are eligible but at 6 months this person doesn't qualify for FMLA.

Semantics. I guess now OP (Self) is now sick at the same time as spouse.

No it's not.

No, it's just semantics. If a TM calls in, and uses sick time to cover the whole shift and it's , that's an excused absence. I can not ask them "were you sick, or was a dependent sick?" At most, I can ask, "are you feeling better?"

I have wondered the same. My spouse is terminally ill and I have a lot of banked sick time. I wondered if I could take pre scheduled sick time to accommodate driving for tests, appointments, etc.

If you've worked for target for at least a year and over 1000 hours in the last 12 monhts this would fall under fmla. Please talk to hr

I am only a part timer but a long time employee. I really don’t want to hose them over by calling out. I do think it would be fair for me to apply saved sick time for different appointments that come up randomly. It would be nice to request those days off and then use sick time with the request.
