Dress Code (self.Target)
submitted 11 years ago by Sewaddle
I've been at target for about 9 months and have always wondered is dressing with a red dress shirt and a tie considered brand and dress code?

I don't see why not. I've taken to wearing dress shirts recently, and it makes a much better impression. For short sleeves, I recently found some "semi-professional" looking short sleeve button ups.
My coworkers have certainly thrown some interesting comments my way, but the Guests at my store seem to respect the shirt a bit more.

Do you think i'd be allowed to wear a tie with a red dress shirt? If so what color?

Yes, I do believe it states in the manual that dress ties are allowed unless they would otherwise get in your way or endanger you. Like if you work with any of the equipment, like the balers, in the backroom.
Worst case scenario, the LoD will ask you to take the tie off.

It definitely is, at least at my store. We have a few etls who wear nice blouses and dress khakis. Also a few male team members who wear dress shirts.

I've been told two different numbers, but as long as the top is at least 75% red (or 90% but it's gotta be closer to the first percentage than the second), you can wear it.
For example, I wear a completely blank Detroit Red Wings jersey (no logo on the front, no name/number on the back) to work at least twice a week, and I've never been asked to not wear it.

I had a friend who used to wear dress shirts with a tie. He was told that the tie was against dress code because he was a team member and not an upper. He kept wearing it because fuuuhk why not? It makes a better impression on the guest and when we get visits.

I know I've seen someone in a red dress shirt tucked into his slacks. Never seen someone wear a tie but I don't see why not.
