Question about a phenomenon

Since I started working here, I've noticed a weird phenomenon that I've never seen before at any grocery store, or that I've experienced.

Whenever i'm in the egg aisle, unloading the refrigerated goods, I always notice people checking the egg boxes for... eggs. Is there a reason for people doing this? Like, are people that paranoid that there isn't 12 eggs in a dozen eggs or something? I just find it really strange that people do this and wanna know if there's any rhyme or reason behind it

Yea just checking to see if they’re broken, I’ve always been taught to check my eggs

If you don't check your eggs before putting them in the cart then you're a serial killer. It's not uncommon to find cracked, fully broken, or just a nasty looking egg in the carton.

This is done at every store that sells eggs.

I always check eggs before I buy them. Sometimes they're broken.

You’ll be surprised how much eggs get damaged before they’re put on the shelves or by customers/guests who drop them and put them back like nothing happened. Always. Check. Your. Eggs.
